18/1/20
Prep - facial scrub
razor - Rockwell (4)
blade - Super Max Titanium (5)
brush - Chubby 2 best
soap - La Toja sensitive cream - vegetarian
post - witch hazel
a/s - Manantiales de La Toja
balm - La Toja classic
scent - Gotas Frescas Hombre.

All just fine. This was my second use of the Arran soap - the first was good but this was very good - it reacted well to a light bloom and then a longer loading time - sprang to life a treat - I really like the scent - strong and complex - and it comes in a pebble - what's not to like? I've had a bit of an epiphany with the Super Max blades - historically never getting along with Indian blades - I'm not even sure where they came from - a freebie perhaps? - I'd only tried them once before in an Ikon short-comb head - and it was not a pretty sight - mind you this razor is about as forgiving as a highly aggressive venomous snake that you have just poked with a stick while it was trying to watch the final of 'Strictly.' The Ikon X3 slant and the Rockwell transform its characteristics - I'm not sure why I'm so surprised by this - both these razors are so well designed that you could jam a shard of broken pint glass in them and still get a great shave. It lasted eight uses in the X3 and I expect the same from the Rockwell. Everyday day - is indeed - a school day. Have a great week and great shaves - yours - I.

OSP Neroli
MÜHLE ‘Birthday Set' ;)
Polsilver SI (3)
Thayer's Lavender and Aloe Vera
Fine Fresh Vetiver after shave

I am, as some of you may know, possessed of a disposition towards the vintage cutlery. As such, it wouldn't necessarily have resulted in me buying a currently produced razor (that said, an R41 and a Parker 24C OC rotate merrily in the collection).

However, the razor in this set (I believe it is the same head as the R89) delivers an outstanding shave. My first foray into DE land was with the Merkur 34c; and I remember being mightily impressed by the build and performance. It might be that my technique has matured since those days; but this razor outshines it. Smooth and efficient with the right blade.

The black fibre brush wastes no time generating lather; yesterday, I used TOBS Cedarwood cream in conjunction with the chrome bowl in the set and the lather was superb. Good face latherer too.

So, very happy to have been gifted this set; and I look forward to using it regularly.

Well, after the first of several shaves to come, the score stands, Rex Ambassador 1, Jeff 0! I can't seem to dial this razor in. One weeper on the face and three nicks on the dome requiring styptic intervention with some serious irritation on the front of my neck and under my right jawline. I just shouldn't have to work so hard. I've yet to have a comfortable shave with this razor. Three passes on the face and one and a half on the dome left me with an unsatisfactory rough shave. The caffeinated shave cream whipped up into a nice thick protective lather, but to no avail! I've only had one other razor treat me this way, and that was the OneBlade Hybrid, but for totally different reasons. That razor was designed for cart shavers transitioning to the single blade world, and since I never shaved with carts did not get the pressure part of that technique that went counter to every instinct developed over 50 yrs of wet shaving. In the Rex's case I have no such excuse. I did notice that the razor did not glide smoothly through the lather. I know it was the razor because I picked up the Gibbs and tried a few strokes through the lather, and did not have the same issue. I'll be trying one more shave, and if the issue continues, it's off to RE for a checkup. And if things continue someone will get a great deal on a Rex. I feel like my neck and head are sore from the depredations of this razor. Hopefully, tomorrow's shave will be an improvement.

And for this day my shave took the theme 'Crumplestiltscream'

IMG_20200119_145928.jpg

The Imp - Stainless Colonial General
The Miller - Schick Proline
The Miller's Daughter - Razorock 400
Crumplestiltscream - L'Occitane Cade

In order to change four days worth of straw like stubble in to a golden beaming face I had to cast a little lie and call upon the shaving imp to perform magical services. In exchange I promised to give my newly obtained Slim. This was of course the lie as I don't have it yet.

So condemned to my shower room I set about the task. Within 10 minutes all was completed and indeed the straw like bristles had magically disappeared and in return replaced by a big golden grin.

Of course I always knew the imp's name as the L'Occitane Cade was a big give away, and his name was Crumplestiltscream. Which rather reminds me I need to get some more soon together with their aftershave balm.

I must say I always forget how damn good this Cade cream really is. Perfection in a rather crumpled tube.

The General? Brilliant. Nuff said.

So here I am the man with the Golden grin and giggling with the thought of being so smooth

I sign off with the usual

Have a most fuzz free week ahead folk

The enjoyment of The General continues! I have never used The same razor on three occasions in a week unless travelling and even then I normally travel with two just to spice it up. So in reaching for it today and most importantly looking forward to stellar shave it would yield was quite telling. It did not disappoint.

Again, as with the first shave I went with First Line Shave Blue and it was again pretty awesome. The CK Eternity vibe is awesome with this soap and AS set.

Lovely two pass shave and as close as can be! Sunday done and the work week awaits. This evening shave was awesome and I really should get more evening shaves in. Hope the weekend was a good one.
