SOTD : Saturday 18th - Friday 24th May 2019

Sunday

Phoenix and Beau Whitechapel
RazoRock BC Silvertip 24mm synth
Face lather
Gillette New No.88 set (1934)
Gillette Silver Blue
Thayer's Rose Petal and Aloe Vera
Proraso Sandalwood after shave

I would normally have waited until this evening for my shave; but I was keen to try out my newly acquired Gillette No.88.

It is a very smooth, efficient operator indeed. Surprisingly hefty; so another one to let it take the weight. Very happy with this, as I got it off the bay for a fair price, where similar ones were/are going for £100-200.

Moss Anniversary Slate scuttle
Rooney Emillion 2 Porcelain-Jade Finest (26/54)
Eufros/Jabonman Sandalo shaving soap
Paradigm II Titanium/UFO Little Titan
Wilkinson 'Light Brigade' (22)
Floris Santal aftershave

The Paradigm and UFO are an excellent combination; with a great blade like this, a heavy razor head is not necessary. The Eufros and Floris complement each other well, both very slightly sweet.

PreShave: Warm water, from the tap
Cream: D R Haris Almond
Brush: Kent BK8
Bowl: My recycled cream bowl
Razor: The Sledgehammer (Merkur 39C)
Blade Astra Platinum (2)
Post Shave: Alum

Fragrance: Floris 71/72

A fine shave, and lots of lather from the cream. And though D R Harris is not one of the St James's three Ts, they are in that class—as good as (if not better than some of them). Have a good evening (and what remains of the weekend) folks

Sad Sunday SOTD

â–ªYaqI 24mm Tuxedo Marble Handle
â–ªNoble Otter Monarch
â–ªRockwell 6C R5
â–ªGillette Silver Blue (3)
â–ª4711 Aftershave

It's a sad day for me today as I go back to work tomorrow having had a lovely week off and an awesome four night break in The Lake District with Mrs L

Noble Otter Monarch soap - it's excellent !
Lathers up a dream, smells divine and provides brilliant protection and glide. Post-shave feel is top notch too.
The 6C on the 5 plate isn't my default setting, but it works a treat (slower, shorter stokes required as I'm a clumsy clot) Luckily all went well.
I don't often use 4711 Aftershave as I tend to lean towards menthol/citrus scents, but it always performs well for me. It's a shame the scent doesn't hang around longer though.

With Mrs L out at a works do for the evening I could indulge in some Deep Purple . . .

+1 on the lake District and Deep Purple. Both fantastic.

A return to DE this evening with the trusted Rockwell 6c stepping up. Still paired with the 7 o'clock Green blade it is an awesome combination for me.

Having had a good weekend with SWMBO and a few days trying out CopyCat samples and genuine scents, I settled with a Creed Aventus themed evening. I actually suspected the Executive Man by Stirling was a bit of a miss with this scent, but having experienced the “real thing” yesterday and realising the CopyCat Executive is pretty much an identical match, the Stirling scent is pretty much spot on too.

All these items gave a great 3 pass shave this evening with SWMBO commenting how good the room smells (she has commented she's just polished! [emoji30]).

The pre-shave oil still feels similar to Nuage oil but obviously a completely different scent. The aftershave balm is still a bit greasy for my liking but the scent is still good.

Finishing off with a couple of sprays of the CopyCat Executive has me believing I smell lovely (in my head anyway).

I'm ready for the week ahead. Have a great night folks. [emoji1303]

Being as my SOTD's tend to be very post-event I have decided to be more punctual on this occasion. So for this evening my theme is to be '666 and magic rituals'

20190519_173050.jpg

111 - OneBlade Genesis V1 and the magic Feather FHS-10 blade
222 - Rituals Samurai Magic Shave
333 - Brush? There is no brush. Just magic apparently
444 - The Bath House Spanish fig and nutmeg aftershave balm
555 - The Bath House Spanish fig and nutmeg EDC
666 - Some shaving black magic

Right, now to go shave and then report back. Apologies for any delay.

Now that was good. No, in fact Good with a capital G. No, no, in fact Good with a capital and Bold G.

This was about as lazy as shaving can come. The Rituals Samurai Magic shave cream has stared at me for quite some years after an impulse purchase from their outlet store at Cheshire Oaks. If I recall I did use it once, and probably incorrectly which is why it never saw the light of day again until this evening. I also remember writing how well it lathers. What a lie. It doesn't lather at all. But I am a friend of the Satanic one and hence there is wriggle room to tell porkies. Use it straight from the jar and just slap it on your face. It is a sort of a gloopy greasy white cream with no fragrance I can register. It is, fragranceless. And I made that one up as well. To be honest this was all a bit hit and miss as I had no idea how to use the stuff and the jar gives little away.

So a good face wash with a small puck of Floris 89, hot rinse and throw on the Magic cream with my Simpsons chubby shaving digits and work it around. No synthetic fibres here. Not what I am aware of anyway.

Now hit it with the OneBlade. Wowser! This stuff is as slippery as a well versed cat thief (why would people want to steal cats?) and the razor simply glides over the surface with wonderful ease. Now this is where the magic blade comes in to play. One of my biggest concerns when I bought the OB was the longevity of the blades. One to three shaves I read which is enough to strike fear in to most folks bank balances. I had a vision of having to make a blade allowance in to the monthly finances, but here we are and this particular blade was on its sixth outing, and no prevarication. More amazingly it gave one exceptionally fine and incredibly close shave. One Hell of a shave and ask me what I don't know about my abode.

Finished off with yet another wash with the 89 and a cold rinse followed by a slosh of Witch Hazel. At the end of the day what use is ritual magic without a witch being in the mix? The same could be said of houses made of candy which sit in the middle of forests.

Final touches courtesy of The Bath House and their 'Higos españoles y nuez moscada' (or something like that) aftershave balm and EDC. Heavenly. Wherever that relates to and not somewhere I am not too hot on.

So a real winner of a shave and the best bit being that is was so damn lazy all was done and dusted in several minutes. Smooth? Too bloody right. Feeling great? In total. Smelling great? If smelling like a fig is your forte, then a big yes. Indeed a lot of magic going on here and a few very welcome surprises.

Have a magical week ahead folks.
