SOTD: Saturday 16th - Friday 22th March 2019

Hi Tony - I put a bit in the palm of my hand and treat it like aftershave - rub it on and leave it. I suppose if your skin is more sensitive to the essential oils or witch hazel, you might want to do a rinse. I'm not sure what others do.

Do you apply it like aftershave or do you "wipe" it on with cotton wool?
Do you re-rinse before balm and aftershave.
Sorry for all the questions, old novice here.
Cheers

Thank you.

Shave,
dry face,
apply witch hazel mixture,
tidy up shave gear,
apply aftershave lotion or balm

I bought a three pack of clear plastic 100ml bottles from Home Bargains (the type you might use for toiletries when away for a short trip) just the ticket and only about £1.50
Lavender and lime is nice to use in the summer months
Home Bargains sell some essential oils for about £1 too (usually lavender and tea tree)

Thurs 22st
Some tried and tested things with some new things.
Back to my Badger bristle, lathered up between face and bowl, much better, too much water on the last shave.
Blade felt good, no tugging and shave #4 with it.
Knocked up a small batch of tea tree post shave astringent (only oil I could find in shop, 3 drops to 20ml witch hazel, more scents on order) felt canny.
Again nothing from alum block so pretty happy.
Really like this R89 easy to use and not hostile at all.

Pre: Hot shower
Brush: Unbranded Badger bristle
Soap: Body shop Macca root
Blade: Astra Platinum (4)
Razor: Muhle R89 Grande
Post shave Alum block and homemade tea tree astringent (trial 20ml), cold water splash
Balm: E45 moisturising lotion
Aftershave: N/A

All good in Maison De'Tone

Good idea Paul, will get some bottles and then try some mixtures. Who"d have thought Alchemy was going to enter my life through shaving.

Razorock Game Changer 0.68 (on loan)
Gillette Silver Blue
Manchurian Finest (on loan)
Euros GEA
Wickhams Cashmere aftershave

Tried the 0.68 base plate tonight and thought it was very good too. It's just a little too mild for me. There's not a massive difference between the two TBH. I'm glad I bought the 0.84 version though.

Thanks to James @Acer89 for the loan of the razor and brush.

Cheers

Sotd - tonight - Thursday the 21st of March -

Razor - Merkur 37c Slant
blade - Gillette Silver Blue (5)
brush - Stirling two-band finest
soap - Valobra stick - tallow
post - witch hazel
a/s - Epsilon Blue
balm - none.

Result - great -

Still in my current vibe of trying 'old school' Italian soaps that are new to me - from the Vitos croaps to this. I painted it on crayon style - and set to lathering - no problem - quite thirsty - easy to get the moisture right though - it starts to thicken and shine. Very good stability of lather. This is one of the classier sticks I have used - if I had to make a comparison - the old formula Lea tallow springs to mind - which you can still get - it's just branded as Vie-Long these days - the Valobra - sort of has a scent - very mild fern - it mostly just smells of soap. The packaging is good - in that - its just a cardboard box with a paper and silver foil wrapped stick of soap. Minimal waste. In use and post - excellent for me - there is a very good chance this will become my travel kit soap. A healthy splash of Epsilon Blue - job done. Perfectly clean and comfortably shaven. Thank you very much @Wayne Pritchard - who gifted me the Valobra - appreciated mate. Have great shaves one and all - yours - I.

Oh - not a single bloody tulip in the picture today - I hope you appreciate the effort. Ha ha ha.

Back to my faithful 6c razor tonight. My skin is coping well with shaving every night with no signs of irritation.

I had another DFS this evening with 3 passes going without incident. There were one or two areas where I could have been smoother however I know that if I push too hard I end up with irritation.

The OSP cream was nice to use with a Sandalwood theme. Preshave, lather and aftershave all giving off a pleasant scent.

Bart's products are simply a joy to use. My skin always feels well nourished and smooth as glass. I'll definitely continue to use them for the foreseeable.

A good shave tonight but I'm looking forward to using the Claymore again tomorrow!

Have a great night folks! [emoji1303]

Pre-shave: Cold water splash.
Cream: OSP OSP Eucalyptus & Menthol.
Brush: Shavemac ' The Flat Top' Slivertip.
Bowl: Giles Shaving Co - Spotty Pedstal Wet Shaving Bowl.
Razor: RBlackland Dart.
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (2).
Post: Cold water, OSP Eucalyptus & Menthol aftershave splash, followed by Ibiza Aloe - Aloe Vera Gel and Czech & Speake Vetiver Vert Cologne.

Another great shave with the Dart - keeping the steep angle. I have a heavy cold at the moment - the OSP Eucalyptus & Menthol cream and aftershave splash combination did the trick, for a while anyway :)

A 2 pass DFS +/ BBS - finish, with no issues.

All the best,

Chris
