SOTD: Saturday 16th - Friday 22th March 2019

So all of the discussions of Progress vs Mergress on one of the forums got me reaching for my Progress this morning. I am fortunate to own a Mergress also that came up in rotation just a little while back. Quite enjoying the Kai Super Stainless lately so I went with that in the Progress. Soap of the day was the venerable Proraso Red, love the scent of this Sandalwood. Lovely two pass near BBS shave followed up with Blackstone Sandalwood balm and some English Laundry Notting Hill to keep the light Sandalwood scent going. Going to be a long day so I'm glad for the great start and shave. Happy shaves all!

This morning I heard a goose returning, which always cheers me up. Went for the poshest shave I could:

  1. Wash face w/soap.
  2. Face lather Vulfix badger/Acqua di Parma creme (bought off the forum - I would never buy this stuff new).
  3. 3 pass with Gillette Aristocrat #66 w/ Feather blade (2), my sexiest razor.
  4. Post shave alum block.
  5. Homemade witchhazel, vetiver, tea trea, lavendar, aloe gel concoction.
  6. L'Occitane Cade balm.
  7. Creed Green Irish Tweed.
Bring on Spring.

Moss Anniversary Slate scuttle
Rooney Stubby 3 Porcelain Finest (26/54)
Woods of Windsor shaving soap (tallow)
Raw Shaving RS-10
Wilkinson 'Light Brigade' (24)
Woods of Windsor aftershave (vintage)

The soap is another of the underappreciated ones, making great lather. This was my first use of the RS-10. The razor was very smooth, much like my Paradigm II but with a somewhat different angle. Perhaps because the blade was at the end of its life, the razor was not quite as efficient as my Wolfman razors. The razor also feels quite heavy, which is a little uncomfortable for me.

How do I go about making homemade post shave astringent? Is there a tutorial on the forum. I would like a "musky" scented one. Thanks in advance. Tony

My wife has dozens of essential oils that she has acquired - sorry, I don't know where she got them. I went overboard on the vetiver by mistake. Paul's got the right idea though. One thing that I did was squeeze some aloe gel into the mixture too.

I will give it a go. Any essential oils? Where best to buy?

Continuing to try shaving every night. Things are still going well and my skin is having no issues.

I went for a fresh menthol theme this evening and it worked well.

I have always liked Proraso Green over the red and white offerings, however they all perform well.

Tonight was yet another 3 pass shave with the only minor incident of note being the tiniest of nicks just below my nose. It was so small I stared it at for a good minute before a dot of red appeared.

Finishing off with Floid Vigoroso I found the cut again quite quickly however everywhere else was just that fresh cool burn.

Overall a BBS finish with my skin fresh and chin rubbingly smooth!

Have a great night folks! [emoji1303]

Cracking shave(s) with the new soaps obtained from a trade (thanks globalm ) The soaps were truly exceptional and even now many hours after the shave I can still catch the fragrance of both.

SOTD 20 March 2019

Pre-shave: Cold water splash.
Cream: L'Occitane Cade..
Brush: Shavemac ' The Flat Top' Slivertip.
Bowl: Giles Shaving Co - Spotty Pedstal Wet Shaving Bowl.
Razor: RBlackland Dart.
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (1).
Post: Cold water, Floid Vigoroso, followed by Ibiza Aloe - Aloe Vera Gel and Czech & Speake Vetiver Vert Cologne.

It's been a while since I have posted - some excellent shaves with my Karve (D Plate) and the Rockwell 6S (plate 4). I had a birthday weekend in Glasgow with SWMBO; a decent shave with the Hone 15a and the Astra SP (Green) - on reflection I should have paired up with a Feather - the Astra was a little tame. However, a trip to the Ubiquitous chip was the highlight of the weekend - great food and beer :) I have also discovered Highland Bothy from the Gentlemans Groom Room - who what a scent and great lather!

Today's shave with the Dart was top drawer; with the Dart I am now using a steeper shaving angle - which works very well for me with this razor.

Hope all is well with everyone,

Chris
