Feather Artist Club RG
Blade: Proline P30 (1)
Brush: Epsilon 26mm Horse Hair
Scuttle: Giles
Soap: Sebum Blue (sample)
Post: Alum (Cold water rinse) & Aloe Vera 100%
EDT: L'Occitane Cade

My newly acquired Feather AC so generously traded with @Digimonkey was put to test today and I am over the moon with it.
Thank you Iain for the razor and all the pressies, you are an absolute gentleman to deal with my friend. :)

The first time I used a Feather (Kamisori Style) so kindly offered by
@culcreuch for me to try and I must be honest to report that I cut myself to shreds. It was horrendous but I did persevere with it for a while. I went on to buy one and then sold it after a few weeks when I threw in the towel. Too many cuts. There was one stage I recall when I looked like the "Joker" off Batman with two symmetric slices on either side of my mouth.
:)
I now know due to more experience that my technique was totally wrong.
These are totally different animals to a straight and in my opinion there are two major factors that should be adhered to when using a feather. One is the angle. It is much more acute than a straight. The razor is almost touching your face when shaving and secondly and perhaps most importantly you must use NO pressure unlike that of a straight where you can get away with a little pressure in some places around your face. Only the weight of the razor does the work.
Anyway enough of my waffling and on to the shave.

A three pass shave has achieved an incredible BBS finish although I do believe that two passes is only necessary. The Proline P30 (My "Go To" blade) is super sharp and unforgiving but it is as smooth as butter over your skin. No irritation, no feedback from the alum and no cuts or nicks resulted in an outstanding finish.

A special thank you must go out to @Optometrist who so kindly sent me yet another sample of Sebum. This time it was the Blue. I filled my scuttle with warm water (in June) and watched the soap melt in it. These Giles scuttles are fantastic @Roscotanna and it did not take long for me to achieve a glorious lather with incredible post shave feel.

The brush never lets me down. Only negative perhaps is the amount of soap retention but flow through and back bone is good.
Finished with a generous helping of Cade and I am good to go.

Enjoy your shaves! :)

My pleasure W. - I was more than happy to trade it for the Streamline - delighted in fact - I'm glad that you got on with it and the Feather has gone to someone who will appreciate and use it - a quality bit of Japanese engineering - it really only ever scared the shit out of me - the fact that I didn't accidentally hack my nose off is no minor miracle. Ha ha - until the next trade - yours - I. Oh - lovely picture of it in its new environment.

Pre: Pears Original Transparent
Brush: Omega 63185
Soap: OSP Orange & Patchouli
Blade: Astra SP (5)
Razor: Merkur Progress 510 (#3)
Post shave: Alum Block, cold water splash, homemade Witch Hazel and added oils
Balm: Proraso Post shave cream
Aftershave : OSP Orange & patchouli

Progress, OSP O&P, Omega (2).png

Again using a small amount of shavings pressed into the Giles bowl with a few drops of warm water, i leave the bowl in the sink floating in the hot water as i take a shower, the Omega makes short work of the soap and i have a nice slick lather for a 2 pass shave in no time. the brush still seems a little soft for me, although it is very nice on the face.

The Progress is a nice razor on #3, mild & efficient. A easy 2 pass shave WTG & XTG (no buffing) without any issues, i only wanted 2 passes tonight as the shaves lately have been close although comfortable i think my face will appreciate a little rest. The 2 passes gave a DFS finish and will do for tonight.
Nothing from the block, a cold water splash then the homemade witch hazel. A nice face massage the Proraso Red and splash of the OSP matching scent - Just Dandy.

Have a great night All.

Thayer's Rose Petal and Aloe Vera
BBA Post Shave Balm

You know those shaves. ‘I'll see if my new synth is as springy as before'. ‘Well, the lather's on my face, may as well have a very quick one pass.' OK, maybe an ATG. Oh, bugger it, let's use up all the soap.'

Sotd - Thursday the 20th of June

Razor - Ever Ready 'Streamline'
blade - ER Corrux (4)
brush - Simpsons Chubby 1 best
soap - Nivea
post - witch hazel
a/s - Nivea 2 in 1
balm - none needed.

Result - excellent.

Minded by the post from @Scotshave yesterday - you can't beat a good economy shave - it is good to remind yourself that you don't need to spend a pile of cash to get a cracking result. For me - Nivea stuff works well with a minimum of expense and fuss. Went for the Chubby 1 tonight - in the interests of world peace and harmony - there was a definite whiff of revolt in the den - insurrection even - my badgers had obviously noticed my head being turned recently by the newly acquired AP Shave synth - 'tart' - I'm sure I heard muttered behind my back. Job done - smoother than a lightly buttered eel - enjoy yours - one and all - I.

SOTD Thursday 20 June 2019.

Pre-shave: Warm shower, Wright's cold tar soap, and cold water splash.
Cream: Castle Forbes - Lavender.
Brush: Simpsons Duke 2 - Best Badger.
Bowl: Giles Shavng Co - Spotty Pedestal.
Razor: Occam's Razor v2.
Blade: Kai Captain (Pink) (Day 1)
Post: Cold water, Fine 'Snakebite', followed by Bart's Balm - Lavender Aftershave Balm.
Cologne: Musgo No 4. Lavender.

IMG_1441.jpg

A very enjoyable 2 pass shave: WTG and ATG face with WTG and XTG neck; no issues to report.

The Occam's Razor is exceptional in terms of performance, still not 100% convinced with the blade loading - the 'floating blade' concept works, seems to give a more efficient shave. However, today's shave with the Occam felt utilitarian, very functional - not that much fun.

The Bart's Balm and the Musgo No 4 were both superb; a great finish!

All the best,

Chris
