My theme for this evening's delightful experience with a razor was ' The Marilyn Monroe (and other American Ikons)'

20181017_161803.jpg

Some like it hot - Ikon SB/ATT Colossus/Polsilver Lodz
Gentlemen prefer blondes - Muhle ivory synthetic silver tip
The seven year itch - OSP barber shop scented cream
As young as you feel - L'Occitane Cade aftershave balm

This evening also saw the return of the Mexican cereal bowl which I forgot I'd packed. After all the clattering of the brush in a mug I have endured for the past week I am annoyed with myself, but happily relieved. The Mexican cereal bowl is so badly produced, with an interior surface bearing more ridges than the Matterhorn it makes the ideal lathering medium. And pretty handy for those days it might be required for eating cereals from.

The Ikon puzzles me as I still cannot fathom how or why it so aggressive. There is quite some blade exposed but the actual blade gap is between little and nothing. What it does achieve though is to hold the blade very firmly in place across the entire width and I am convinced reducing blade chatter ('oooh you know that Polsilver chap? he's a real cad he is'.....blade chatter) contributes to a more aggressive razor. That and God knows what else. Whatever it is, give the Ikon SB respect and it will return some of the finest close shaves on the planet. Don't respect it and it will happily carve your face up.

I cannot praise the Ikon enough. It does add to the quandary of 'a single razor and a desert island' syndrome. So what I have decided is either don't get stranded on a desert island or make sure you have every razor on your person if you do. Which by the way doesn't bode too well if you are a seaman like me.

Respect given, a bowl of the brilliant OSP cream to hand and the brush doing its 'I'm a brush thing' and what a wonderful shave was delivered. Three full on passes and I have arrived on the ship's bridge to do my ship's bridge type things feeling fresh and as if Ms Monroe would waltz me off in to the night. In my dreams. Instead I have a bunch of salty arsed sailors to waltz me away so I guess a touch of diesel behind the ears might be the most fitting scent to finish off a great shave.

Have a wonderful evening one and all and may all your dreams come true. They never do for me.

The Rockwell 6c has landed!

I was looking forward to this shave. The new razor arrived yesterday (thanks to @Acer89) and I managed to remain patient by leaving my shave until this evening. As much as I enjoy this new hobby, I know the longer I leave between shaves, the better shave I get (go figure?!?).

Usual preparation and today I chose Wickham's Buddha Wood to break in the new tool. I also chose plate 4 for the razor having read reviews that this is a good place to start.

The 1st pass WTG was really smooth. I could hardly feel the blade but could hear it was working hard. The audible feedback from this razor and blade combination is awesome. A flawless pass.

Moving to XTG I felt I was applying a bit too much pressure underneath my chin and my lower neck. The result was a lovely smooth face but quite a few weepers under the chin and on one side of my neck. Nothing painful or that needed any attention.

My final ATG pass was one of the smoothest I've had in a while. The blade made a sound on the 1st stroke then was silent for the 2nd.

As I rinsed I was really pleased with how smooth my skin was. Splashing cold water on I could feel a sting and thought I had maybe overdone it with too much pressure or too aggressive a plate choice. But after some Thayers then a splash of Boots 2 Phase there was very little burn. A quick squirt of Barts Balm and I was smiling. Super smooth.

No need for any pickups or buffing. Sublime.

Things can only get better with this razor and based on this performance it's a winner!

Have a great night folks! [emoji1303]

Prep: Nivea Sensitive Face wash
Pre: Wilko Shave Oil
Brush: Traditional Shaving Company Ivory Pure Badger 100
Cream: Derby Lemon
Razor: Gillette Slim Twist
Blade: Shark Super Chrome (2)
Post: Cold water rinse. Boots tea tree and witch hazel
ASB: Barts Balm Lime

New brush arrived today. First badger brush I've had for years. Very nice for an entry level knot. Easy to lather and load; nice and soft after a quick shampoo and 15 minute soak. Feels great on the face.
Decent shave on 2 passes (WTG & ATG) and pick ups. Finished off with Barts Lime ASB. Lovely stuff - reminiscent of green Opal Fruits - leaving my face feeling soft and smooth. A good end to a good day.

Cheers

Steve

New brush really comfortable handle, really fabulous lather, really great two pass shave. (The handle of the iKon is there, really).

This brush looks better here than it does on the stock photos. There's something to be said for a brush (that's) actually comfortable to hold. RR make great synths for the money

Greetings,

It's been a while since i last used the monsavon soap, and forgot how much i love it and how well it performs. The monsavon is a strong contender of one of my favourite soaps to date. It's slick, protective and the post shave feeling it gives is superb, making each shave i've had with it a enjoyable pleasurable experience..Outstandingly good.

The dorco titan blade, performed smoothly matched up well with my parker 87r on it last use, resulting in a very comfortable 3 pass +pick ups silky smooth near BBS shave with no errors to report.

Finishing the shave off with a generous dollop of Morrisons ~ Aloe Moisture Lotion.

My face is feeling smooth, & smelling devine.;)
