A Tribute to the 40/50s

So in keeping with the old Razor Blade I went for a Modern take on the 40s or 50s !

40's Shave.jpg

So the razor is a Sloc a tribute to the Grand Shave King of the 40s , the blade is a Star from I think the 40s/50s as these seem to pre date the sale of Every Ready which was in 53. The Brush is a Razorock tribute to the Ruberset. Soap was Saponificio Varesino that was founded in 45 , Aftershave was also Saponificio Varesino Manna Di Sicilia.

Razor Blade shaved well considering it's age but as I was warned is definitely not as smooth as a modern blade , made a great noise though :)

J&T® bamboo / Tuxedo.

Seygus "Zeppelin" V2 (0.5/0.7) / Stork "Taipan" handle.
Derby Premium (1).
Jabones by Luna “Dama de Noche" ASB.

Monday morning

OSP Grapefruit and Menthol
RazoRock BC Silvertip 24mm synth
Face lather
RazoRock Black Hawk V2
Feather Professional
Thayer's Rose Petal and Aloe Vera
Fine Snake Bite after shave

Face feels very much alive; albeit in cryogenic suspension. The Hawk is quite a good razor, but I think I may put a heavier handle on. I find I have to work harder to get the finish that I usually receive: it even tames the Feather Professional. That said, a nice smooth finish aided and abetted by the glorious OSP.

Ah yes. The Snake Bite. IMO, it out-mentals the Mentally Vigorous in the menthol department. Great stuff; and still feeling its coolness after twenty or so minutes. To be fair, the chill factor was starting to kick in with the soap; and I cold water rinse between passes and to finish.

SOTD 14 April 2019

Pre-shave: Warm shower, Wright's Cold Tar Soap, cold water splash, Proraso Pre Shave Sensitive.
Cream: Kiehl's Flite Lite.
Brush: Shavemac ' The Flat Top' Slivertip.
Bowl: Giles Shaving Co - Spotty Pedstal Wet Shaving Bowl.
Razor: Karve OC - B Plate.
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (2).
Post: Cold water, Floïd Vigoroso, followed by Isle of Skye Soap Co - Cedarwood and Sage shave balm and and Czech & Speake Vetiver Vert Cologne.

A great Sunday shave; however, I must stop shaving while listening to the Football, especially when your team is getting humped in a Scottish Cup semi-final :-(

3 passes and BBS.

SOTD 15 April 2019

Pre-shave: Warm shower, Wright's Cold Tar Soap, cold water splash.
Cream: Kiehl's White Eagle.
Razor: Pills 101NE.
Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (5).
Post: Cold water, Floïd Vigoroso, followed by Isle of Skye Soap Co - Cedarwood and Sage shave balm and and Czech & Speake Vetiver Vert Cologne.

Sunday's shave was so good, I did not need much stubble removal this morning - decided to shave with the Pills as I was also short of time, I opted to shave with some Kiehl's brushless cream. The Pills was a good choice with a thin layer of cream, which although gives great lubrication lacks in the protective element.

2 passes and DFS+

All the best,

Chris

A slightly cautious shave to avoid any further damage to the top lip, and I still had a close and smooth finish from the MÜHLE razor. I do like this razor, it is efficient, well made and inexpensive for a stainless razor, good stuff.

15/4/19

Soap - Proraso Green
Brush - Omega 80265
Razor - 1972 Aluminium handle Tech
Blade - Sputnik
Post - Witch Hazel
Balm - Dapper Dan's Eucalyptus & Menthol Balm
AS - Benjamin's Bay Rum Mentholated

Another here for Menthol Monday, I needed the menthol hit this morning as I didn't quite wake up on the right side of the bed. Took a while to get the lather going, too much water on the brush to begin with, but considering I didn't pick up any weepers I will see today's shave as a success.

15/04/19

Brush - Omega S-brush
Pre - T&H Oil (sample)
Razor - River Lake 2000s (Ming Shi)
Blade - Astra SP (1)
Soap - T&H Sandalwood cream (sample)
ASB - T&H Sandalwood (sample)
Cologne - T&H Sandalwood (sample)

Away in a hotel for the night with work. I find the S-brush a good travel brush. I bought a few samples before severe SAD took over and now use them when travelling. This was my first time using the 2000s. I'm pleasantly surprised. Good audio feedback and a DFS+ on setting 2 with three passes. The T&H sandalwood cream is average - the scent doesn't hang around but I believe it smells nicer than Proraso sandalwood. Hopefully the cologne performs better in longevity.

I can now spend the rest of the evening rubbing my smooth face in awe!!

1st shave with the Hawk
Screenshot_20190415-173105~2.png

Pre: Pears transparent original soap
Brush: Semogue 620
Soap: OSP Neroli
Blade: Feather Professional
Razor: Hawk V2
Post shave: cold water splash, Alum block, homemade Witch Hazel Tea tree/lime/patchouli/ Eucalyptus astringent,
Balm: D&G Intenso
Aftershave: Floid SE Mentolado Vigoroso A/S

Feeling sorry for myself I had to do something to take my mind off my toothache, I know! break out the Hawk V2 and fit a new blade.
The OSP Lathered up easily, again a nice floral scent.
I carefully started in my usual place and what a great feeling. Such a smooth shave. I was worried about the head size around my top lip & nose area, no need. A very smooth 2 pass shave, WTG/ATG. Nothing from Alum block, cold water rinse, a drop of my new astringent concoction , a dollop of D&G balm and a splash of Floid.
Another success. BBS.
Did not think about my tooth once. Dentist in morning.
