A little late but last night's shaving theme was ' The colonial donkey'

43720

Dear Mr Monkey with a blade. I failed badly with my cinema excursion and the quest to gain the plastic cap from a packet of Pringles. Due to a lack of them being sold at the local Odeon I ended up having a poor second choice of nachos and dips. The cellophane bag they came in failed badly as a cap for the La Savonniere du Moulin Shaving Soap and so I remain naked in my tub.

The working end - Colonial General SS with a Kai Captain.
Brushing it up under the carpet - Razorock Plissoft 24mm
Dope on a soap - La Savonniere du Moulin donkey flavoured shaving Soap
Heaven sent scent - Arran aromatics Sea salt and Rockrose EDT

It was the post by @SpeedyPC which made me think the Colonial has taken a bit of a back seat recently as I went the way of laziness which comes with the OneBlade. Not to say it was a bad choice, but the Devil will find work for idle hands and hence the time saved was soon filled with extra home duties delivered by by my much better half. I could excuse myself with 'I am having a shave' for at least half an hour now.

What a lovely return to the General and once again I came to value the virtues this razor carries. 'Blades the size of windscreen wipers' some folk cry but judging by the size of the windscreen wipers on my car I think you are exaggerating a little. This is one wonderful bit of kit and looking back at the OB it is every bit the equal. Efficient and a very confidence inspiring razor with a handle one can actually grip. OneBlade take note here. A third time out Kai Captain onboard and a full three passes to perfection in a damn sight less time than it is taking me to write all this rubbish.

The donkey flavoured shaving soap certainly helped the shave along and as @Blademonkey has noted before, this is one great soap in every sense of the word with a first class performance. And, it keeps a donkey farm somewhere in France in donkeys. Vive la France and their Lait de Equus africanus asinus. Anyone with a spare Pringle's cap?

I cannot praise the Arran Aromatics sea salt and Rockrose EDT highly enough. Very much suited to the present weather with its lighter and fresh tones. A really delightful fragrance which I always enjoy using and gains nice remarks from both my family and donkeys strangers. Probably the best unisex scent I have come across to date.

So I looked in the mirror and said to myself 'By golly, you are one smooth chap', 'And you are one ugly mother........' replied the mirror. I can live with that knowing that the donkeys milk will keep me in eternal youth.

A happy week ahead all you shaving folk and may your mirrors be of kinder thoughts than mine.

Vint,Myatt,Cul 1 (2).JPG

Pre: Soap: Pears Original Transparent
Brush: Vintage Butterscotch Culmak 1950
Soap: NOS Imperial Leather cream Circa 1950's
Blade: Kai Captain (2)
Razor: "The Myatt" Daymark / Parker Frankenrazor
Post shave: Alum Block, cold water splash, homemade Witch Hazel
Balm:Floid AS Balm
Aftershave: Floid Mentolado Vigaroso

That was different. My 1st OC shave.
Again a fantastic lather from another NOS cream, this brush is just wonderful on the face, she has a few snapped outer hairs but she is as old as gods dog. again i added some glycerine infused with eucalaptus, Tea tree and Cedarwood, Boom!
The first few strokes were wonderful, very mild and comfortable, Turned the head over and - Whoa! some blade feel there, looking at the head it looked OK, and i did check it before hand just incase, obviously the blade is ever so slightly sitting to one side. So I carefully proceded taking my time when on the most efficient side.
I have had a wonderfully close shave, although not too comfy. 2 passes WTG and a Multi direction for second pass, however, for the first time in an age i have some razor burn on my neck.
Parts of my face sang when the Alum Block was applied, i was glad to get the cold water on, a good dollop of Floid AS Balm and some Floid SE MV. Hopefully it will all calm down.
Summary
Back to the drawing board on the Myatt OC plate, i will try it with the Merkur 23C cap and handle, if that does not work then i will admit defeat with this one - for now.
"its time to put these foolish notions behind me" as someone once said and concentrate on the more wonderful razors i have.
Have a great night all.

Monday evening

Santa Maria Novella Tabacco Toscana
RazoRock Disrupter 22mm
Face lather
Gem Clog Pruf
Gem SS PTFE
Thayer's Rose Petal and Aloe Vera
RazoRock Santa Maria Del Fiore after shave

A welcome return to the Clog Pruf tonight; resulting in a lovely, close smooth shave. I found that the after shave pairs well with the soap; the splash reminds me slightly of L'Occitane's Eau des Baux, or Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille.

Brush - dscosmetics Badger Silvertip
Pre - Floïd Oil
Razor - Muhle R41
Blade - Gillette Rubie (3)
Soap - LEA Superlather
ASL - Floïd Suave
ASB - Floïd

The R41 did its usual good job of mowing down hair and the superlather could have provided lubrication to a high performance bearing. The Rubie seemed to tug a fair bit though and I believe it has reached the end of its life (after 3 shaves!). Overall I'm not that impressed with the Rubie. YMMV of course but I seem to get better performance from the GSB and GPs.

The Floïd Suave is an aromatic rollercoaster. It settles in to a real nice smell despite intially leaving me thinking I had rub myself with a sour sock!

Do you think I should have not used mine?
