One of the most outstanding qualities I note from the SOTD's is the most wonderful photos which members are posting. I know members really try to present their SOTD's with the most amazing photography, care and attention. A big big plus which I am sure you are all proud of.

Then by accident I found out there used to be an annual calendar at the end of the year from the 'best of the best', which got me thinking why not try again for 2020? Or at least I presume there used to be a physical final product.

First of all though I need to know what sort of interest there might be on resurrecting the calendar and what sort of format should be used to choose the best of the photos.

My own personal thoughts are elect one per week followed by a monthly vote and a hard print calendar at the end of the year. Of course there will be a cost attached with all profits going to the forum's chosen charity. We can discuss these costs etc in the near future as there is a lot of ground to cover before arriving at this point. I would like to think I don't arrive at the end of the year having a big pile of one per day calendars and a loss of financial outlay.

Given it would need to be pretty well finalised by the end of the year I was thinking of a cut off month of around September or October to allow time to get things in to print. Nobody really wants a calendar in April. It would also mean having to go back to around September 2018 to select this years pictures, unless you think the beginning of this year or even a more recent start date would be suffice.

I certainly don't want this to be my project and would love any input from you folk and in return I will try my best to administrate it all. @Boab has very kindly given me some additional tools to help make this possible and I would like to give it my best in return.

Any input very welcome. I will post a few voting threads in the next week so at least I have an idea as to whether this will be worth it.

Edit - Changes the title as it might have been misleading. Of course I am thinking a 2020 calendar here

SF - I think this is an excellent idea. I fully appreciate that - quoting - 'I certainly don't want this to be my project' - it would turn into a thankless task - and no mistake - perhaps a few of us could pool resources - to make it happen? I have thought about this for a while - quite a while - tonight - I'm happy to help out with the mechanics - I have some experience with pictures ending up in print - I'd be surprised if there wasn't a graphic designer or two among our midst - the final printed product - ought to be cheap to produce - drag and drop self-publishing and all. If you are interested in sharing the project work load - then pm me - collectively - I can think of others - who would positively contribute - we can make this happen - yours - I.

Thank you very much @Digimonkey.

I rather started this one because I thought 'What a nice idea' despite lacking any knowledge how to get there.

I agree there must be a few folk on here who are more au fait with this side and indeed thank you very much for your offer to assist which I shall gladly take up. It is the final product cost angle which I am concerned about. Getting that far is a manageable and acheiveable challenge. I can happily build oilfields or tow other ships as I do at this moment but ask me to create a calendar and I am all lost at sea as to speak.

I will send a PM once I can see how much interest there is and have a good think 'will it be worth the effort?'. Which, to be honest is not really too much of a concern and getting there will be fun and I do love a challenge.

Any advise from anyone in any form will be very much appreciated.

In between thank you again

No worries @Satanfriendly -

You see what sort of demand there might be - I'll get the ball rolling with costing it - I've a mate who is a highly experienced web and print layout designer - I'm sure he can help - I'll speak to him - see what he suggests. I'll work on the basis of A3 horizontally folded - so - A4 pic space and A4 month to view calendar - I'm not suggesting it has to be this format - just that we need somewhere to start in determining cost. So - that's 12 pictures plus a cover image. No doubt other options will become obvious when we start to look into it. The relationship between demand and cost - I think - is fundamental - the more of the former the less the latter will be - and whether it is worth doing. A place to start? - let me know what you think - or anybody else for that matter - yours - I.

Many thanks for this @Digimonkey and your efforts are most appreciated here.

Indeed the pricing would be the do or die issue and I wouldn't like to guess with lesser numbers and higher costs if there would be any takers. Plus of course something towards the forum charity.

I do have a few other questions in my head but need to get past the first hurdle.

I will PM you and see what your thoughts might be.

I keep telling myself 'It is only a calendar' but there is a lot more to simple tasks than first meets the eye.
