I enjoy using the Vector, just so easy. Today however, the blade went off pretty quickly and it struggled ATG on the top lip and chin.
I would still rate the shave as a DFS+ although i have come to expect BBS every time from this slender lady.
Feeling and smelling good, the Machrie is a very clean / fresh scent.
Stay safe and enjoy your day All.

I don't own a lot of shaving gear, I'm a sort of know what I like person and tend to stick with it hence the lack of SOTD's.
I'm similar, once I found what worked, I stuck with it. Rarely I vary it. Recently, I've wanted to try something new, and came back to the forum to see what other members are using these days.

Pre - Trumpers Sandalwood Skin Food
Cream - TOBS Mr Taylor
Brush - Traditional Shave Co
Razor - Gillette Tech (I think)
Blade - Feather (1)
Post - Alum, followed by Trumpers Sandalwood Skin Food

I decided to move away from my usual Razor Combo. I dug out what I think is a Gillette tech. As it's a mild razor I stuck in a feather blade. The TOBS is a travel bowl I purchased. I'm not doing much travel at the moment. Even from new it was a little dried out, it needs to be used more as a soap to load the brush. I usually dip the brush in the cream. TOBS don't put a little plastic thing in the lid of their travel bowls, which then allows the air in and dries the cream out. Next time I'll get a tube and squeeze it in the tub. Anyway, a decent shave, had to re-load the brush after the first pass. Not BBS on my throat. It seems the angle is more critical with the Tech than my usual razor.

I'm still envious of the lather @chard52142 produces. However, at the end of my shave when cleaning up and washing excess lather down the sink, I always think, I should use less product. Still, it seems you need an amount even if some is wasted otherwise, it just doesn't feel right.
Thanks, Natjag!! Actually the amount used is just a finger scoop...smaller than an almond size. I am from Malaysia and most of my soaps/creams are very costly from far away and as such, I am a bit stingy and wants to make them last a long time...;);)

I usually squeeze what's left on the brush and work it into my face. 3 reasons. Firstly, I don't like wasting soap; secondly, it allows me to feel if I need a touch-up here and there; thirdly, I just like it ;)
+2 Exactly the same with what you do... :sneaky:

Let's move on with some more Super Speeds. Today the 1956 Flare Tip SS and the middle razor of the Trio. I really enjoy this one because it really does occupy the middle ground between the Blue and Red Tip SS. Never a lot of fuss with this one and I could see why millions of people probably used one as a daily driver.

Some more CBL goodness was on order today and in keeping with the old school vibe I wanted an old school scent. Club CBL was the ticket. If you love Pinaud Clubman THIS is your soap! Boy is it good! Great soap and scent.

Lovely three pass shave to start the work week. Topped it off with some Clubman AS...of course! Quick spritz of Acqua di Gio to finish it all off. Stay safe all and check in on your families and neighbours. Blessings to all.

Rating: 5 / 5

Monday 6th April

Yaqi 26mm 'Rainbow' - Meißner Wild Oranges Paste - C.J.B Japanese Style/Proline P - 4711 AS

Post Night Duty Shave and as I am not enjoying work much at the moment......I have decided to spread my wings a bit ...and use some nice stuff which doesn't feature much in my shaving rotations. The Meißner paste smells good enough to eat and is a great performer. I haven't used an AC type razor for ages and it was great to see that I haven't lost the touch.

2 passes and a touch up for an excellent result.

SOTD 04/06/2020

I've decided to spend several of the next few shaves focusing on my new Colonial General. I used a Feather Super in my first three shaves with this razor, and have been very pleased with the performance. My regular goto blade for my AC razor's is a Schick Proline. The only thing about the Feather Super I've not been so pleased with has been the tugging I experienced near the end of my third shave, despite palm stropping the blade after every shave. Using the same palm stropping method I was able to achieve 28 shaves on a Schick Proline blade in my Blackland Vector.

With this in mind I loaded a Proline in the new General for today's shave. I began my shave with my usual cold water rinse. In keeping with the monthly theme at the 30DC at TSD, I then grabbed a neglected stick of Arko shave soap, applied it to my face and noggin, and proceeded to generate a decent protective lather by face and head lathering the applied soap into a rich yogurty covering. The General is a heavier razor than the Vector, but I found that first WTG pass to be comparable to the Vector, but not as close as the shaves achieved by the Feather Super on the initial pass.

Given that experience, and always seeking the BBS, I chose to pursue a three pass shave today. The Proline held true for my second XTG pass after lathering up again, being especially careful not to reopen the three nicks on my right cheek following my brief Nacet adventure with the Rex Ambassador yesterday. The third ATG pass left me with a very acceptable DFS++. There remained a slight bit of roughness around yesterday's nicks which I allowed to give the nicked areas some healing. As non-mentholated shaves go, this one was more than acceptable, and left me feeling clean and decently smooth.

RAZOR: Colonial General V2
BLADE: Schick Proline
PREP: Cold water rinse
BRUSH: Omega Pro48 Boar
SOAP: Arko Shave Stick
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by ThayersLavender WH and finished with Pre de Provence AS Balm with Shea Butter

This evening brought with it a shave and the theme 'What are shaving?'

IMG_20200404_223854.jpg

My SOTD this day includes my definitive guide to shaving in an abbreviated format.

An abridged history of shaving:

Man
Facial hair
No facial hair

Razor:

Modern razors come in many forms and material choice. The more popular ones are made of pseudo metal plastic and can be found on supermarket shelves between condoms and toothbrushes. For obvious reasons of course......? They are also available in a disposable format where the user can toss them in a bin after using. Or before if so wished.

Moving to the more traditional side of wet shaving we start to see razors manufactured from steel, brass and.................pseudo metal plastic. We also see a rise in cost making them less of a disposable item, although one does have the option of shoving them at the back of a cupboard or a drawer when they might as well have lived in a bin.

Straight razors are still available, but they are only for hard bastards and pirates. What's the difference?

There is now the option of printing yourself a razor and here is one I printed earlier.

IMG_20200404_195547.jpg

1. It is fucking huge
2. The only way of firmly holding the blade in place is by using sellotape
3. Takes forever to find the shaving angle :(
4. It is utter rubbish
5. And here are the results of getting wet
6. It is utter rubbish
7. In which case one may as well used the blade on its own (see remarks as to straight razors)

IMG_20200404_195608.jpg

8. Did I say it is utter rubbish?

So here is a non-printed razor I purchased made from stainless steel* (an Ikon B1) and doesn't fall apart when dipped in water. It will quite happily takes chunks out of ones face (see remarks as to straight razors). On this occasion it was my razor of choice and no it didn't strip skin away. That is because I am a hard bastard (just not as hard as the straight brigade)

9. It is not rubbish :)

* probably made from a claimed 'marine grade stainless steel'. I've worked on ships for the past 44 years and as a Master Mariner all I can say is ships tend to be built from fucking shite steel. Nuff said

Soaps, brushes and bowels bowls

Soaps are very useful for doing soapy type duties, brushes for doing brushy things and bowls being an answer to useless buggers who cannot face lather. Me. However it is notable that not all soaps, brushes and bowls can be used in the context of shaving.

For example this one is more attributable to washing dishes but not for shaving. Unless of course (see remarks as to straight razors).

IMG_20200404_194117.jpg

So for this particular shave I chose to use 'real and proper' shaving associated items. 'Real and proper' being a soap named Arlington by Dr Harris and a brush named 30mm Tuxedo by Mr Cadman. Looks jack shit like a Tuxedo, but I'll go with it.

I presume this Dr Harris chap is a well founded doctor in soapology and knows his stuff. It appears to be the case.

IMG_20200404_200302.jpg

Having given in on the printed razor idea it was more a case of mix and match all the items together in some kind of order and 'voila ici' a shave extraordinaire. A big grin and I know I am so smooth and sexy that I decided to show my ankles in public.

To put the icing on the cake and round off a most delightful shave; a scent was an absolute must.

Scents come in a number of variations, EDP, EDC, EDT, EDF and EDPiaf. The following is not usually the type of scent one would use in the name of smelling divine and fragrant, but does a damn fine job in the shower room for those moments divine and fragrant are required.

IMG_20200404_194050.jpg

On a more smelling divine and fragrant level I found that Goutal's amazing Eau De Monsieur does a slightly better job than a can of Neutradol

IMG_20200404_200229.jpg

Feeling smooth and smelling divine. My wife was duly impressed and so I legged it off to the local supermarket to explore the aisle to the left of 'shaving'. By the time I had queued to get in, took another hour to get through the till, questioned by the police as to how a packet of three toothbrushes was considered 'essential' I received a text message

'Gone to sleep'

So here we are at the end of my SOTD and you are blessed that, yes, some bad things do come to an end. Have a safe and healthy week all and I wish you all and your families the very best during these testing times

Well not quite. What Gillette and all the rest don't mention is what is a shave if it doesn't have some Japanese ladies?
