An enjoyable Sunday Morning Shave with a surprise found on clean up.
i Had a very good slick lather today although it took a bit more work than usual as i added a bit too much water at the start, i mixed a bit longer and ended up with a nice lather which was not too thick, easily painted on the face with the Yaqi.
The shave itself was nice, i was getting a similar feeling to the Feather HS/PILS combo of last week, a slight blade soundtrack but not pulling or tugging, very smooth actually.
So 3 passes giving me a BBS finish, on breaking the razor down for cleaning i had a little surprise, i thought i was shaving with a Lab Blue, the blade was actually a Polsilver SI, how did that happen? i had to check my spreadsheets and it seems the last time i used the Karve i had the PSI in there and i has not changed the blade - it was a 3 shave Polsilver at that. A nice little bonus really as i was not sure about these blades, could the Karve have tamed the blade or was it all in my head? They will be getting another run out although i will keep it in milder razors or on lower settings of adjustable's.
A nice post shave routine leaving me soft, supple and smelling very nice.

Mate, I always thought you were Captain Spontaneity! To learn there's a spreadsheet involved? Well, I've not felt like this since learning wrestling was staged!
I plan them a week in advance mate, take photos, put kit together in the den and then move them to the bathroom as needed. It's something I started when the collection grew too large to remember what razor/blade/soap/post shave had been used, they all get a fair go this way.
Real sad @Tony'schin eh!
I even have a small abacus for blade useo_O

I can understand the challenge - the struggle is real. I'll get over the disappointment, I'm sure.

Sunday's Shave of the day.

Razor - Paradigm SE
Blade - Schick Proline P-30
Soap - La Savonniere du Moulin
Brush - Alpha Outlaw Ti V1 fitted with a Rhodium Silvertip knot
Post - Thayers astringent

A superb shave, close and very smooth. A wonderful soap which I shoud try to use more often, it was whipped into a dense creamy lather with the aid of my favourite brush.

Have a safe day! :) P.

PreShave: Warm to hot water, most from the boiled kettle some from the tap
Cream: Santa Maria Novella
Brush: Kent BK8
Bowl: My recycled T&H cream bowl
Razor: The Sledgehammer (Merkur 39C)
Blade Perma-Sharp – Super (2)
Post Shave: Alum

Fragrance: Floris 89

Another shave with a Perma-Sharp – Superblade shave (thanks to Digimonkey's generous PIF). It relative smoothness impresses me—much nicer than the two Moscow blades of the past couple of weeks. I'll see how it lasts, though. Full report next weekend

Have a good week folks, stay healthy!

5/4/20

Soap - Mr Vicco Shaving Cream
Brush - Yaqi Faux Horse/Rainbow Handle
Razor - FAT Handle Tech
Blade - Bic Platinum Chrome (8)
Post - Witch Hazel
AS - Benjamin's Bay Rum Mentholated

A much better lather today with the Mr Vicco, and the blade today definitely felt at it's smoothest and most comfortable with exceptional results.

Have a good Sunday chaps.

Pre - Trumpers Sandalwood Skin Food
Cream - Sweyn Forkbeard Vanilla and Tobacco Leaf
Brush - Traditional Shave Co
Razor - Merkur 34G
Blade - Wilkinson (6)
Post - Alum, followed by Trumpers Sandalwood Skin Food

No change from yesterday, other than six days with the blade. Nice shave.

I'm still envious of the lather @chard52142 produces. However, at the end of my shave when cleaning up and washing excess lather down the sink, I always think, I should use less product. Still, it seems you need an amount even if some is wasted otherwise, it just doesn't feel right.

SOTD 04/05/2020

Learned a new shaving lesson today about my Rex Ambassador, at least for me! It's definitely blade dependent, YMMV. I've been shaving very successfully with the Rex since it's repair at Razor Emporium. My usual settings are 5 and then 3 with a Voskhod blade, not with a Nacet blade. It appears that I need to adjust the settings that worked so well with the coated Voskhod blade. Nacets are really sharp, second after Feather, according to tests conducted at Refined Shave. A setting of 5 which worked so beautifully for me with the Voskhod was just too much blade exposure with the Nacet. After nicking myself three times within the first two strokes, I stopped, applied styptic, and swapped out the blade. I put the Nacet into my Feather SS, and loaded the Rex with a fresh Voskhod. It was like night and day. After the swap, I had the razor I remembered so fondly.

The Viking Silvertip Badger brush did an excellent job generating a nice thick pre-mentholated MWF paste which I then face and head lathered into that nice yogurty coating that works so well for me. After the initial blade faux pas, I proceeded to complete the first WTG pass, albeit gingerly on my injured right cheek. The rest of the pass was business as usual. After relathering, the second ATG pass was completed leaving me with a more than acceptable DFS++. Witch hazel followed by Fine Snake Bite AS Splash and Pre de Provence Bergamot and Thyme AS Balm completed a great shave leaving me feeling cool, smooth and clean.

RAZOR: Rex Ambassador
BLADE: Voskhod
PREP: Cold water rinse
BRUSH: Viking Silvertip Badger
SOAP: Mitchell's Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Thayers Lavender WH and Fine Snake Bite AS Splash. Finished with Pre de Provence Bergamot and Thyme Aftershave Balm
