4/4/20

Soap - Mr Vicco Shaving Cream
Brush - Yaqi Fan Tuxedo (28mm/56mm). Mysterious Blue Handle
Razor - FAT Handle Tech
Blade - Bic Platinum Chrome (7)
Post - Witch Hazel
Balm - Nivea
AS - Eyup Sabri Tobacco

After finishing the tub of Proraso Green, I've decided I will try to finish up the tube of Mr Vicco shaving cream which I bought last year and for today's shave it produced a lather that was reasonable, I could have used a bit more soap and a bit less water but it was functional nonetheless.
This particular Yaqi has the lowest glue bump of any synth I own (and probably any brush) but I find it's a bit floppy in usage and easily flicks water in usage; I myself prefer a synth with a slightly higher glue bump.
The shave itself wasn't the closest but it was a comfortable one nonetheless.

Have a good Saturday chaps.

After along run with the gillette winner special platinum coated blades,i've gave the astra sp blade a outing as i can't remember the last time i added them to my blade roatation.

The EJ de 89 (kelvin)/Astra sp was a comfortable safe duo, resulting in a silky smooth 3 pass +pick ups near bbs shave with no errors to report.

Which blade do you prefer, the gillette winner or Astra?

Pre - Trumpers Sandalwood Skin Food
Cream - Sweyn Forkbeard Vanilla and Tobacco Leaf
Brush - Traditional Shave Co
Razor - Merkur 34G
Blade - Wilkinson (5)
Post - Alum, followed by Trumpers Sandalwood Skin Food

I decided to start using alum again. It's been sat in my draw for years. Does it make any difference, not sure really! Some of the benefits such as killing bacteria on the face can't be measured or seen. Probably pushing it on the 5th day with the blade today. I'm sure I've gone longer.

Long reply short... Both the Astra SP & Gillette Winner are great blades, 'For me anyway and both have a good consistency I find the gillette winner blade more forgiving and smoother...However,as always like every other traditional wet shaving soft & hardware ,opinions are very subjective. IMHO shaving is 99% good technique. preparation, and shaving confidence, and finding a good sharp de blade to suit your skin type.

Razor Gillette Empire Goodwill 1st Use
Blade Derby Usta 1st

Good face lathering...tingly and cooling feel. Nice scent too.
My 1st use of this razor, EmpireGoodwill
Initial blade loading not good so need to fiddle some for both sides to be aligned. Shave was ok...feel smooth..not much blade feel. Need 3pass + buffing ATG, XTG/ATG & ATG for near BBS result with 1 weeper. Ice cold water rinse followed by special Thayers. Today's shave 9/10

PreShave: Warm to hot water, most from the boiled kettle some from the tap
Cream: GFT Eucris
Brush: Kent BK8
Bowl: My recycled T&H cream bowl
Razor: The Sledgehammer (Merkur 39C)
Blade Perma-Sharp – Super (1)
Post Shave: Alum

Fragrance: Eucris

A shave with a Perma-Sharp – Superblade (thanks to Digimonkey's generous PIF). Smoother than the previous two Moscow blades of the last two weeks, but again bit rougher than my liking. I'll keep trying it. I'll post the full (week's) review next Saturday.

Last week's blade was a Rapira – Platinum Lux (again part of the PIF). It was rough—though not as rough as the previous week's Ladas; I used it for 4 days before switching out to my standby Astra. I'm not certain about the Raptira or the Ladas, perhaps I have more of a Sainte Petersburg face, than a Moscow one.. I'll try both again, though.

Have a good weekend folks, and stay healthy.

Cheers. I'd been using personna blades for the last 10 years or so. In the past few years I've had a couple of duff blades in each pack. Since found out they've moved production, which may be the reason. I'm looking for something to replace it. I'd noticed a few good reports on the Gillette blades, I seem to remember the Astra's were OK. I'd settled on personna as they worked out better value. Handy to get some comparisons.

I swear by it - for me clears up nicks and irritations in no time, though as I get better with DE I have less of those.
Also use it as a deodorant!

Rooney 3/2 Ivory Finest (24/58)
XPEC Unscented shaving cream (v.1)
Wolfman WR1-SB/UFO Colibri
Schick Plus Platinum (3)
Mennen Skin Bracer

The brush is one of my softer ones, perfect for the cream. The good clean burn of the Mennen finished a fine shave.
