After using the tech for a few shaves, it will find it's way to the bottom of the drawer, again. Does anyone else find that feather blades dull quickly? I've used them in a few razors and find after a few shaves they need to be replaced.

If I get four shaves out of a Feather, I'm doing well. I think that is a common complaint about their longevity, though. Also, as I've argued before, the sharpest need not be the most comfortable. Personally, although I use Feathers, I tend to use them in what some call ‘mild' razors to ‘oomph' them. But it doesn't always equate to a comfy shave.

It would be a shame to relegate your Tech, though. My 3 ones (Early War, Raised Flat Bed and Aluminium) perform well with other assertive yet smoother, blades: Gillettes Nacet, 7 o' Clock Yellow, Silver Blue and Wilkinson Sword. They also do well with Personna Med Preps; although perhaps less so with Israeli Reds.

I've been meaning to get a sample of it the next time I place an order with Connaught.

One of my favourite almond soaps was the vegan 3P for scent and lather, but I seemed to get a bit of irritation from it.

Ditto for getting 4 good shaves from a Feather, which isn't my favourite blade I find I get closer and more comfortable shaves with other blades. With the 3 Techs I have (fat handle, ball end, aluminium) I get good shaves with pretty much any modern Gillette blade and in addition to the ones mentioned above, I really like the Winner and 7 Black. I also seem to struggle to get good results with the Personna Red but very good ones with the Lab Blue, also very good shaves with the Yellow Bic as well.

Thanks for the info chaps. Pleased it's not just me with the feather blades. I'm going to get a sample pack of blades, mostly gillette. Over the past few years I found the Red Personna blades hit and miss with a few duff blades in each pack. One edge may be dull. I'm still trying to find a good replacement.

@Scotshave I probably will get the tech again in a few months and try with your blade suggestions.

razor - ATT Calypso M
blade Supermax Titanium Plus (6)
brush - Stirling - two band fan
soap - Wickham 1912 - Apricus - vegan
post - witch hazel
a/s - none used
balm - Wickham - Apricus
scent - Dior - Sauvage edt.

Result? Just peachy - take the exemplary 1912 soap base and add the Apricus scent - bright, sunny, optimistic - ideal for a day such as this. Although there was no real reason too - finished off with Sauvage edt. - what else would you use with this soap? - the shave didn't seem complete without it. Good shaving all - yours - I.

Another glorious shave with the new Colonial General V2 blade holder equipped with a Feather Super (4) on its last use. Rather than bore you with continuing paeans to the latter glories, I'll instead focus today on some of the changes in software I made for this shave. Many of us look to our milled soaps - Martin de Candre, Mitchell's Wool Fat, Creed's Green Irish Tweed etc - as the platform for our shaves, but doing so neglects the shave creams. In Italy shave cream is the preferred latherer, according to Sharpologist. Some of my current favorites are Palmolive, Kapo, Gillette Pure, Proraso and Cella. I've always enjoyed a good variety of different shave creams, but one of my favorites is Bigelow. It always generates a great thick protective lather. The beautiful Boar brush Jayaruh crafted with its great backbone did an excellent job whipping it up beautifully in the scuttle. This lather seems every bit as good as that generated using my regular MWF. One and a half passes with this razor again put the baby to bed. I really enjoyed the shave; I feel clean, cool, and refreshed. What I most enjoy about using this razor, though, is that wonderful, soft, velveteen feel to the shave surfaces, and that wonderful smell from the Chatillon Lux Post-Shave Toner.

RAZOR: 316L SS Colonial General V2
BLADE: Feather Super AC
PREP: Cold water rinse
SOAP: C.O. Bigelow salted with 6 drops of M-Bomb
BRUSH: Jayaruh Custom Boar #343
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by Thayers Lavender WH and finished with Chatillon Lux Pure Lavender Post-Shave Toner

I prefer creams, could be because I find them easier to get a decent lather.

I am a bit like @Scotshave in that I tend to use them in milder razors such as the wonderful 89's where they can up the anti a bit. If I can get four shaves I consider myself lucky.

I will say though I haven't found anything better on the Hone where together they are a killer partnership. I can probably stretch to five shaves.

They have their place.

I was the same for a long time then learnt how to use soaps and never really looked back. Creams occasionally.

Try a soft soap like Signature or Extro as a starter then work up from there. Both are brilliant and easy to work.
