SOTD: 4th of April to 10th April of 2020

Thursday

Preshave: Argan Oil Soap
Razor: Karve Brass SB D Plate
Cream: Proraso Blue
Blade: Feather (3)
Brush: Shavemac 24mm Synthetic
Splash: Proraso Sandalwood
Balm: Rosemary and Sandalwood
EDT: Dunhill Pursuit

I seem to have trouble with creams got the familiar burning under my eyes I have yet to identify the ingredient, but it seems to be shiny creams that effect me.

I am not sure what the scent is they were going for either as to my nose it is pretty unpleasant , stinks worse than Macca Root Cream from the Bodyshop :). unfortunately this one is not for me. In fairness though I would say the lather was very good and nice and slick.

Razor: Yaqi Chrome Scalloped
Blade: Gillette Winner (3)
Brush: dscosmetics 26mm Synthetic
Soap: TGS Pino Alpestre
Pre: Proraso White
ASL: TGS Pino Alpestre
ASB: None

Final use of the Yaqi Chrome Scalloped. This is a good razor and delivers great shaves. It can make an excellent daily driver or travel razor. Yes it lacks the kudos of artisan offerings but it's well made, has a brass handle, weighted well and will probably last many years - all for less than £13 delivered. I don't think anyone can argue with that.

I've reviewed the soap in the TGS thread. Soap review:

It's definitely a unique scent. It wasn't until someone mentioned liquorice that I realised that's one of the primary notes in there. The Blue is Proraso's attempt at a modern cologne type fragrance.

I quite like it myself but I'm also an oddball that likes the Maca Root cream

Ha Ha unique for sure or at least I hope :) I was getting baby sick but smelt in the tube I can see Liquorice. In fairness many people seem to like Macca Root too :).

Thursday

La Toja stick
Yaqi Red Marble Tuxedo 24mm synth
Face lather
Merkur ‘1904' (41C)
Personna Med Prep (1)
Thayer's Lavender and Aloe Vera
La Toja splash

My first use of the 1904. Inspired, allegedly, by the Gillette vintage chaps. In terms of assertiveness, however, it's a different beast altogether. This is a smooth fellow; and it paired well with a new Med Prep to give a close, comfortable shave. I like the weight of it too: it comes in at about 66g; compared to the Gillette Old (58g). So, it may lack the assertiveness of the older Gillettes, but it's a damn fine razor nonetheless.

Thu 9 SOTD
Soap Colonel Conk Lime
Bowl Green Nubs
Brush Yaqi 24mm Mountain Lake
Razor Parker Semi Slant
Blade SuperMax Stainless 1st
Post & Aftershave
Ice Water + Special Thayers
Clubman GentsGin
Great lather from the bowl as usual! Mild lime scent. Thick and slick. Shave with razor and blade was a good combo. Smooth and sharp but still suffers weepers :( was ever so light and careful
3+1pass ATG, XTG & XTG/ATG
Ice water rinse followed by special Thayers. A very nice and enjoyable shave though. BBS results but rating 9/10

Pre: Sainsbury's Luxury Soap, Bergamot & Nectarine
Brush: Yaqi Moka Express
Soap: OSP Eucalyptus & Menthol
Razor: PILS 101 NL
Blade: Polsilver Super Iridium (1)
Post shave: Alum Block, cold water splash, Patchouli, Lime, Sandalwood & Ylang Ylang (Crisp & Clear) EO infused witch hazel
Balm: Proraso Eucalyptus & Menthol
Aftershave: OSP Eucalyptus & Menthol

A perfect finish today, when i first started out with the Menthol soaps etc i was not a big fan, it was a nice change though, my view has changed over the last year or so and i do seem to enjoy the scent more these days.
I tried a new Polsilver Super Iridium in the PILS today and tried to keep an open mind, I had 3 passes for a perfect finish, BBS and so comfortable, nothing from the block and the Post shave with the Proraso Green and OSP splash leaving me feeling really good about that.
So, now my thinking on the PSI blade is :-
The blade feeling is just feedback from the blade cutting, its not a bad thing its the blade letting me know that it is working, it is also giving a slight Lower toned audio feedback which again is letting me know all is well. I have to admit, the finish i am getting is as good as any blade i use, its just the PSI has different characteristics during the shave - YMMV of course.
Stay safe and Enjoy your day All.

Why the final use of a fine razor if you don't mind me asking? I have the same and what you describe is definitely spot-on for the razor.

I muddled my posts up so that text shouldn't have ended up in SOTD. If I direct you towards this thread, you can see the experiment that's being undertaken:

I say experiment but it provides no scientific value whatsoever.

After the usual 1-2 minute hot towel prep:

Kirby/Super Iridium
Col. Conk superbadger
Pens BB shaving cream
no after shave needed
Jacomo de Jacomo vintage juice

Been a while since last getting the Kirby wet and jeeez, I need to use this razor more! Surprisingly mild and forgiving but still a smooth result. Chrome head shines like crazy and the silver plated handle cleans up well if need be (nothing done in this case though). Found this complete set about 15 years ago at a flea market near Chicago.

BBS results,

Martin

iKon Tek
Derby Premium blade
Gillette Pure shave cream
Semogue owners club finest badger
Nivea balm
Clubman Pinaud brandy spice aftershave

How do you get on with the Tek? I find it soon let's you know when you are not treating it with respect. Otherwise it can produce amazing results but I find the B1 does much the same minus the threat value.

Soap - Vitos Red
Brush - Yaqi 24mm Plissoft
Razor - Ball End Tech
Blade - Bic Platinum Chrome (12)
Post - Witch Hazel
Balm - Nivea
AS - Superdrug Forest Fresh

As superb a lather as Vitos Red produces, I find once it has been open for a while it seems to lose it's scent and all that remains is the tallow smell which tbh isn't one I am really enthusiastic about! A really smooth and comfortable shave today but I seemed to pick up a few ingrowns on the neck, so that's my sign the blade's done, even if I could push it for a few more shaves but still I was pleased with the great shaves I got with the blade.

Have a good day chaps.

Their Vegetale has a lovely scent. I'd recommend it; unless the absence of tallow is a deal-breaker.
