I bought myself a duffle so I can look like Paddington...just a blessed relief I don't go to that jumble sale no more.

Very smart Tony, I particulary like the first coat I was looking at something very simular a week ago in Marks & Spencers. I'm OK for a long coat I have my Austin Reed very simular to this one.

YOu know what your'e getting with Austin Reed and the M&S stuff actually looks better tailored, I'd be pissed if those coats I linked to didn't have real pockets.

Spookily enough, my mental image of the Antster in a duffle was more reminiscent of John Mills standing on heaving, spray dashed bridge on a stormy night with field glasses slung round his neck & AAA shells bursting overhead.

Paddington Bear ???? Shome mistake shurely !!!

If you want off the peg 'Crombie' style coats that are actually 'fitted' and don't hang like a sack of spuds, like the vast majority of the ones that you find on the high street, then check either of these shops out :-

Looks like Adams coats of London have just borrowed the coats off Austin Reed. even though they are as much as £100 cheaper than the Austin Reed coats, big question is are they £100 less in quality?

Well they are all 'borrowed' from original Edwardian makers such as Crombie but, as Adam has been tailoring clothes in this particular style since the early sixties and I've never seen one with all of the original details by Austin Reed ( Who I presume will just change their lines with what's fashionable at the time) then I doubt if anybody has copied the Austin Reed one.

As for quality, I've been wearing this type of clothing for 30 odd years and the one I bought from Adam is the best I have had yet in terms of both quality and fit.

All of his materials are British and he has them tailored to his own specific designs in Italy (Jump the Gun I know have their Crombies made up at the same place too but not sure where they have their suits done, although I hear they are very good quality too), whereas such as Austin Reed source theirs from the far east.

I got 2 mohair suits from there too and they are by far the closest off the peg suits to tailored suits that I have had, again the quality is exceptional.

A couple of words of warning though, as they are not mass produced he may not always have the exact item that you want in until he gets some more made up. Also if you are carrying any weight around your mid riff then be warned that when I say they are fitted, I mean fitted!

Regards
Shaun

Always nice to have some positive piece of feedback regarding such things as good quality clothing, I certainly like thier range of check suits, I will put them in my favourites, and hopefully use them sometime in the future, it looks like a very nice shop also being quite slim myself the two and three button suits fit me very well, it's many years since I went shopping in London, it use to be my regualar back in the late seventies early eighties, in the Kings road, shops such as American Retro American Classics, Jonhsons and for my shoe's Robot, that's when we spent the weekend there in clubs such as the Blitz anf Le Beetroot, I did enjoy my younger days very much indeed.

Well in the negative world we live in, it's nice to be able to receive some nice service and give others the nod :)

A big heads up for anyone who can get to Leeds next Friday or Saturday. You can get the real stuff at the Crombie shop in Leeds at 80% off factory sale prices but bear in mind that the original price is going to be circa £700 + for an overcoat.

It's open 11 to 4 on these days only at these prices

Well been to Crombie clearance, didn't have any decent coats for me but I managed to get the wife a ladies covert coat for £50 instead of £595!

Also got a 60 quid belt for £15 and a few pairs of merino wool socks for a fiver apiece, rather than £20.

Oh and also got a full range of l'Occitan for £46 instead of £73, with a free ladies gift pack worth 30 odd quid with a voucher they sent me through the post (it was supposed to be a £20 one but they didn't have any in at Meadowhall so they gave me the larger one instead :)[/i]
