Simpson Brush Advice

I've also got a Duke best and I get what you mean. Less costly could be an Edwin Jagger best. More costly but better all round could be a Shavemac finest.

Tony,

What would you say then is a good all round brush, creates lather easily with three T soaps, Tabac and also with creams?

Cheers

the question we've all asked at some point

i'm secretly hoping you'll get a Commodore for purely selfish reasons, as i want to know what they're like

I have a commodore in best, it's a nice small brush, but I find it scritchy and a little bit too limp for the soaps I like to use. I would buy it again, in super and from the factory asking them for a denser knot.

Hope this helps,

Dave

I don't know a lot about the Simpsons range so this is not a suggestion as good for soaps but I have a soft spot for the Polo 8 in super, I jut like the shape of it and just from the photo I like the proportions of it. It is similar to the PJ which I like as well.

thanks Dave, i was hoping for a better recommendation though, but if it's limp then that's no good
i use my 404 mix for hard soaps - Tabac etc
404 Pure for creams and soft soaps, but it strugles a bit with the Proraso soap and Mamabears
so i thought the Commodore would be a good brush to fill the gap, the handle on the Chubby would be too small for me

Nick

i have a PJ3 in Best i'll sell you - used twice, mint, £75 cost nearly £100 new a few months ago

I asked bullgoose and he said the colonel was a great soap brush, and the commodore is also great and a more all round brush.

I'm actually leaning towards either and Edwin Jagger for about £20, or a duke 3 in pure.

If you're budget is around the £50 mark these are worth considering.
As I mentioned in an earlier post Goldennib knots are not that far away from the Simpson's knots and his two band knot is wonderful for soaps and face lathering. Although I have not seen these in the flesh that resin material looks similar to the Rooney handle material. So maybe the best of both worlds but at least half the price.

Do you mean the Penworks site? I had a look and some of those brushes are mighty fine looking brushes, I agree they are probably not that far away from the Simpsons at a much keener price.

Same vendor Audio, different sites. Knots from GoldenNib, completed brushes from Penworks.

He has posted in the Vendors B/S/T with some examples...I suppose I am a traditionalist and haven't been that keen on many of the materials used but I like that ivory stone resin very much.
