Signature Soaps Review Thread

Some months back the shaving world was in sadness with OSP ending production of their wonderful creams and soaps. Who would fill their space and who was good enough to take over their mantle as the best home brewed shaving soap out there?

Step up a one man band (all four of the same individual person) from Bolton going under the name 'Signature Soaps'. The mutterings started surfacing and so I decided to purchase their (his?) Hibernian hybrid soap and see what lie behind these rumours.

In essence the best description would be croap which seems to cover a thousand sins not covered by cream and soap. I do like my croaps (ADP Gomez Extro etc) so right down my road.

Nicely packaged in a screw top tin (not the plastic tub on the website) with a nice label reminiscent of home made jams at a village fete. The contents? Almost chewable and with a most wonderful aroma. Whatever it said on the tin the scent was exactly that. Not an end mish mash, but each individual fragrance coming to the surface. Great start

Moist Cadman Tuxedo swirled around and the pick up was so easy. No blooming and no requirement from a visit to the gym to create the lather. Mixed in a bowl and within minutes a mass of rich creamy lather. The scent remained.

Applied to one's face and a real sense of quality and happening. Apply sharpened steel and a wonderful feeling of comfort, ease and that nice glide quality one looks for. Neither did it get absorbed by my skin as some lathers manage and it simply remained of the same quality.

One complete shave later and no dry patches, just one wonderful great shave and a knowledge this soap played a big part.

Amazingly the scent still lingered

I will whole heartily give a big thumbs up to this soap and as good as anything previous.

Brian has done a masterful job and a new company like this who care about their products deserve all the support they can be given. I for one will be purchasing more soon and I wish him all the best with his business adventure.

Now for the shave.
Firstly, I will always give a honest opinion, good or bad but it will be my opinion, I think it would help the maker of whatever the sample is to look closely and maybe help them find something better. It is not fair to just put great reviews if you do not really think it is great.
Ok, the scent was very good and got even better as I lathered it up, it lathered very fast, much faster than I anticipated and was a really nice smooth creamy lather, so 10 out of 10 for that. The lather was a superb painting type lather, no big globules to flatten out, it went on easily, stuck like glue to my face and lasted easily the time it took to shave, another 10 out of 10. The glide and cushion were also first class, I tried to find a lacking somewhere in this soap and really could not, so another 10 out of ten. It is defo a soap I will buy and reccommend to others, I love the idea of the smaller pucks as it lets you buy more scents instead of waiting 6 months to get a big puck down below the rim. Without doubt this will be my go to soap for the next few weeks at least, I really like it and rate it very highly....when does it go on sale is my next question?

Just shaved with the lime and lavender so here's my review.

I went to work with the brush on the soap and 20 seconds later the brush was loaded. Then in the bowl with some water and a minute or 2 later a had a bowlful of rich, creamy lather.

Onto my face it went and the scent is as you'd expect, citrus and floral and very pleasant it is too. The Citrus is especially nice as I could feel the zing on my skin.

Onto the shave and the lather provided plenty of glide resulting in a very smooth and close shave. There was more than enough lather for 3 passes plus touch ups and at no point did it go dry or dissipate.

Now onto post shave and it is here where some soaps can really fall down for me. I find that some can leave my skin feeling dry but not a bit of it here. My skin was left feeling comfortable and hydrated.

All in all it's an excellent product, up there with the very best for me.

I will definitely buy some more in future, but could be a while as I've 2 huge "sample" tubs to get through first!

Thanks again @BrianH for sending me these to try and congratulations on making such a superb soap. (y)

Sunday 29/09/19.
I used the Eboracum soap sample today for My SOTD, i am not too fussed about peppermint as a scent so i tried not to take the scent into consideration.

I was using a shavette today and i am not that confident with it, however, because of the glide the soap gave on its first outing a decided to try it today. I used a bit too much soap - again, letting it bloom in a few water drops as the bowl floated in the warm water, the RR400 brush is a lather monster and today was no exception, copious amounts in no time. It is slick, thick and shiny - i knew i had more than enough for 4+ passes. Painted on the face it feels very nice, the scent is there and to me its not too bad. The shave was a slow one and the lather stayed intact for the full (slow) pass.
The Razor glide was there, although i think because of my deliberate strokes i did not get the full benefit. The rinse off leaves the face feeling soft and supple and ready for another load up, 2nd pass again the lather stood up. I do like these soaps.
The post shave feel from the soaps is very good for me.
So Thanks again Brian, i can most definitely recommend these soaps, they do perform as well as any i have and i think will become part of my soap arsenal adding to OSP, Whickams, Stirling & P&B.
Thanks again Brian. clap.gif

Quick review following my first shave since receiving the soap samples, which as others have said, are less "samples" and more "small soaps".

I have an admission - I opened the packets in the kitchen and my wife put the packets (with labels) in the bin. I'm reasonably convinced it was Hibernia and Eboracum that I received.

My immediate thoughts were that I liked the scent of the Hibernia, but the Cedarwood was very prominent from the other. I have issues with sandalwood irritating my skin and some other soaps which are strongly perfumed, so was a little worried I may not be able to use it. It certainly is not a scent I would usually buy.

Not going to go into too much detail on the shave this morning, as I'd be echoing the sentiments of others who have already posted their reviews - I used the Eboracum, and it is a very good soap. The sickness and post shave feel are very good, and it's easy to load on a brush straight from the tin.

I will certainly be purchasing another and this may become one that I use regularly - although maybe not the Eboracum scent.

Thank you for your feedback. I will be listing the smaller pots on my website when I get labels printed

Had a go with the Coria (lavender) today. Nice scent and not overwhelming. Very easy to load the brush for a face lather. I'm trying to think of different words to use rather than excellent, superb, etc. to describe the lather and the fantastic shave it allows but I'm kind of stuck for words. Suffice to say it is among the best that I've tried.
Unfortunately I am finding that products containing lavender are a wee bit irritating to my skin but this is very much an individual thing and has nothing to do with the superb quality of the Signature Soaps. Fortunately a Goats Milk was also in my sample selection which has all the excellence of the Coria without the very slight irritation. Looking forward to seeing what scents Brian adds to the Goats Milk as I'm anxious to try them (especially in the smaller pots ;) ).
Many thanks to BrianH for the opportunity to try the samples.

Had a go with my other sample today, Valentia.

Same fantastic lather and post shave feel, another great performing soap from Signature.

The scent for this one, for me, was very subtle. It states Sandalwood, Bergamot and Vetiver, but I honestly couldn't get any of that. I have got a bit of a cold so that might have a bit of an effect.

Not that it's a problem, there's always a place for a soap that might not affect your chosen EdC.
