Active Signature soaps pass around

[
Sorry to hear of your Tendonitis Andy, I hope you feel much better really soon, all the best Steve
Hope the tendonitis Clears for you soon Andy.
Hope you're able to make a recovery.

Thanks guys.

My hand has recovered sufficiently enough that I was able to get a shave in on Friday night and another one today.

I used Hibernia and Caledonia respectively and must admit that I really like this soap base.

I tend to shave with an uberlather and some soap bases work better at this than others. These soaps have given perfect results on each occasion and are definitely up there with the best on the market.

Maybe you could pass it on and put your name down again when your hand is better ?

I thought about doing that a couple of weeks ago Bob, however as there is no-one else on the list after me, I thought it would be best to hold on to them until I could complete using them and then return them back to either Paul or Brian.

I'll write my final review up over the next couple of days and then work out who I need to return them to.

Glad you've liked them, and thanks for the feedback

Doesn't look like there is a current list, but if the samples are still available, I'd love to give them a try. Given the current situation in uk about what counts as "essential", there really is no rush

@Blademonkey
@Eurofighter
@am4862
@Hunt807
@ajc347
@mike66

I've added you to the list Mike.

if you could send me over a PM once the whole situation regarding essential travel has resolved and life is back to normal, I'll happily send them out to you then.

@ajc347 Soaps safely with me. Thanks Andy for sending them on.

Shame I've already shaved today, as would loved to have dived straight in. First impressions - they smell great. The Hibernia stands out for me on first sniff, with it's faint bit of orange in the background.

@BrianH - apologies if asked before - probably going to try the Capra first as never knowingly used anything with goats milk before. What's the thinking behind this as opposed to using water in the process? Any particular characteristics it should display over the others?

Goats milk in soap seems to be “kind” to people with eczema, psoriasis and particularly sensitive skin. I have regular customers who use it who have struggled to find shaving soaps and bar soaps that don't create severe reactions. Some people tell me the milk enriches the slickness but I find the water base is just as slick. Going forwards I'm going to add some fragranced versions of the Goats Milk base with essential oils that are kind to skin. Let me know what you think after you have used them a few times. Regards Brian

First thing to say - thank you to all involved in organising this pass around. It's the first time I have stepped away from either Arko or Palmolive shavesticks (pressed in to small bowls).

I would normally face lather from the puck, but unsure of the etiquette / hygiene of this in current circumstances, I've been scooping out a thumbnail sized bit of soap and lathering in bowl. Probably my technique, so not a criticism of the soaps, I did find it beneficial to allow the dollop of soap to sit in a teaspoon of water prior to using a brush. Just allowed the brush to break into the soap a lot easier. I'm sure using the tubs directly with a wet brush would be equally as effective. My dollop size may have been too generous - I found these soaps can take lots of water, yet retain a good lather consistency without breaking down into a loose foam.

To date have used Capra (goats milk) and Danum (patchouli). Both gave equally good results. If I'm honest, if somebody gave me a bowl of lather and asked me to say which was which (ignoring scent) I doubt I could tell difference. Again, not a criticism - more the opposite. @BrianH has been able to create different soap bases, yet both provide the same result. Great lather from both.

I have a terrible habit when shaving of too much overlap of my razor strokes. Each new stroke probably goes over at least a 1/3 of the previous stroke. Using Arko / Palmolive can sometimes cause a "stutter" as the razor rubs on the dryer skin. No such problem with these soaps. The "residue" from the soap is still there, and means each stroke is a smooth glide. Big thumbs up from me!

The Capra is unscented. Danum uses patchouli oil. In the tub and whilst making the lather you can certainly smell it. By the end of the shave, and rinses the scent is quite muted on your skin. I shall look forward now to using the Caledonia and Hibernia over the next few days.

Glad you liked them. I use about a large pea sized amount and smear it on base of bowl. Regards Brian

Wondering if I can be added to those wishing to try soaps please
I'm new to De shaving and not used anything except green Proraso and bought some LE Toja in Spain
I'd like to try some fruity , orange , apple or grapefruit scented ones if available .. but happy to try any to get ideas of where to start as I'm like a deer in the headlights when I look online and end up not buying anything as I'm totally confused

@Caltech I have the soaps at present. If you PM your address I'll gladly send them on. Unfortunately it'll be the end of next week before I can send as currently in the wilds of Pembrokeshire camping.

If I recall correctly, there are 5 soaps in the pass around - leodis, danubia. caledonia, hibernia and capra. If you take a look at @BrianH signature soap website you'll be able to get an overview of the scents.

My favourite would be caledonia. Perhaps Brian can be persuaded to concoct a west country scent (apple? pear? clove? cinnamon?) Lendiniae?
