Shopaholics

Eagerly awaiting Shaving Shack goodies: Parker 73 (why? because it looks nice and was 'only' a tenner); Feathers (read so much about them); T&H pre-shave oil...sorry antdad  (bought some T&H Ultimate Comfort cream the other day).

Also steaming up the front window in anticipation of a popular blade sampler pack (small) from Connaught, plus a puck of Mitchell's Wool Fat soap from the Carbolic Soap Company (?).

Will be pawning the wife's engagement ring later this week. I need an alum block.

It's funny, but I could tell you the exact day I ordered shaving supplies, the exact date and an approximate time. But I still struggle when it comes to remembering my wedding anniversary.

Funny or quite sad, I'm not sure which at the moment.

I think I am finally running out of steam. I'm off to see a dealer in Hungerford tomorrow who is interested in buying two of my bells. So I could be going past The Gentleman's Shop with at least £250 in my pocket. And there's nothing I'm really interested in buying right now. Might just pop in............................... A few blades perhaps.

You are quite right! Should be interesting. The dealer appears regularly on 'The Real Deal' with David Dickinson. If I don't get the figure I have in mind they will go with a reserve on Ebay and probably end up in America. I have bought from this guy. But not tried to sell to him before.

Hmmm, interesting concept, how does that work then?

So there we have it. I know when to stop!

Had a great morning in Hungerford. Lovely sunny day.
Sold my two bells. Not for £250. Got offered £300 - asked for another tenner towards petrol and sold at £310.

Off to The Gentleman's Shop. Thought I would set myself a real test. Had a really good look at the brushes. Held, felt, thought. Really took my time. I wanted to identify which brush represented for me a really genuine improvement on my Duke 3 and Kent BK8. Something that would excite me. In the end, the only one that did that was the Chubby 2 super. I was surprised that it was firmer than the" best" I thought it would be the other way round. But eventually I decided that the Chubby 2 was actually too big. I prefer the size of my Duke 3. The Chubby 1 super was out of stock. I wonder if that would have tempted me.
In the end I walked away. Even more content with what I have. Perhaps I will take a look at the Chubby ! sometime. But not yet.

So it was off for a coffee before returning home.

Hungerford still has some very fine antique shops. I thought about seeking out vintage shaving gear.
Another visit perhaps.

I am not a shopaholic. But I knew that.

Some sort of boneheaded edict about tallow sounds all too plausible to me, more so in my opinion than the imminent death of the razor blade. Besides, it isn't going to stay at 44p for ever - where's that Yorkshire smiley Boab? T'one wi' t'flat cap on't?

Both my ball-end replacement IKON handle and my Dovo shavette turned up today..... probably going to use neither tomorrow as I've had two crap shaves in a row so will go back to my favourite HD/Keramik combo.

If the IKON handle was for a safety bar razor I might have been tempted but as its for an open-comb :shave I'll leave it until I have time to induldge.....

EDIT:
Must sort my creams out, the Trumpers Rose can't hold a candle to my Proraso despite reports of Trumpers being *THE* cream.... Maybe I just prefer citrus scents, menthol or little (Almond, Coconut) or no scent at all.
