Gents, well all the older hands amongst you should I say. ;) How often or how many blades have gone out of production since you’ve been DE shaving. And have those blades had no equal with blades available today. :?:

Just wondering as I’m starting to worry that if the Yellow sevens, Super Irids or Feathers disappeared id have to chance physical injury with a straight.

I'm sure A LOT of the blades we tried a few years ago had actually gone out of production some time before.

Ones I tried and liked, but can't get now are:

Polsilver, Nacet (purple box), Gillette Silver Blue, UK-made Wilkinson Sword and Gillette Platinum (Swede).

Super Iridium, Yellow 7 O'Clocks and Red Personnas are all very good replacements but I would still buy any of those older blades if they ever cropped up anywhere.

The only blade (for me) which has no equal today was the Silver Blue. I could get 15 3-pass shaves from each and every blade!

It's the UK made Wilkinsons which bother me, as I'm down to less than 100 of them now.

That was the first blade I ever used and I couldn't fault it. Got a pillar pack stashed away. I might put some miles under my soles at the weekend looking for some more. I know they are out there, somewhere, in dark dusty corners of chemists.

only have 5 mins. Will read the whole thread later.

Just a thought: What if a facebook 'society' was created informing everyone of the rip off price of Cartridges and enlightening people about Irritation-free DE shaving. It could go viral and cause a storm. We have the power!
I was initially planning to send Gillette an email promising this course of action if they didn't start producing 'swedes' again. However, it looks like Feathers may take over. More tests needed. Anyway, what do you think? I don't use facebook but I;ve heard about this kind of thing before.

Sonny...you are a member of the shaving enlightenment because you want to be. Seek and they shall find.
Don't know about facebook but If you want to shout about it why not consider starting a blog like Fido?

Yes I agree with Tony. 'Proper' shaving is something that's very hard to persuade anyone to try. It's a bit like stopping smoking. It makes absolute sense, but you can only do it when you yourself are completely ready. If I'd have stumbled upon a website about shaving a few years ago I'd have moved on very quickly, but luckily when I did it was the right time for me. :shave

Good luck Vinny. I managed to turn up a few packets in some very out of the way places recently, but the hit rate wasn't high.

Got 100 earlier in the year for.... £8+change via my barber.

None left now.

Aaah, I see. I have much to learn.

I've never bothered to try to promote my ideas on shaving, and I doubt anyone would listen because five blades must be better, right? What I have done is to introduce a mate to some better products: I weaned him off foam with Taylors cream and lately P.160, and gave him a couple of Feathers to try which were a big hit: we've just split a 200 pack between us.
