Shaving with a coldsore

Anyone have any opinion on this? I get cold sores from time to time and have never tried to shave until they have gone. Mainly because I worry about spreading. Do any of you guys shave while you have a coldsore and if so do you suffer any I'll effects afterwards?

I only ask as I have a coldsore now and haven't shaved for nearly a week and it's starting to get on my nerves.

As someone who gets them occasionally, I avoid shaving if I have one, unless absolutely necessary. The sore stage doesn't last more than 2 or 3 days if you blast them with Zovirax or similar.

I have been using zovirax and it has scabbed over so shouldn't be long now. It's just irritating not being able to have a good shave ☹

I don't know if it does help but ever since i started using alum blocks regularly i have not had a cold sore but knowing my luck i will get a outbreak tomorrow

I use an alum block and still get coldsores from time to time. Wish it worked like that for me

I use isopropyl alcohol and a cotton bud. Stings like a bugger but never gets past a small blister stage, as compared to zovirax, where it used to go to the scabby stage.

I'll have to try isopropyl alcohol.
zovirax has never worked at all for me

If you're using any kind of reusable razor then I wouldnt shave when you have a coldsore. As you mention, there could be a risk of spreading it (especially if you forget and then fancy a bit of manscaping at a later date). As to using alcohol on your face it may speed up the coldsore process by drying it out, but it can do damage to your skin so most medics would advise against it.

I use hydrogen peroxide to "burn" it dry and merely shave around it. My late mother swore that dabbing some of her own earwax on one made it heal faster for her. :cautious: I told her that was an old wives' tale.

Just don't do it. At least don't attempt to shave the affected area. So, you don't get an absoutely perfect shave, but then you're going to be looking pretty imperfect with that cold sore anyway.

Mercifully, they dissappear fairly quickly.
