shaving mugs recommendations

Looks a bit of a faff, and I doubt you'll find those bowls for that kind of money over here, even in an oriental supermarket like Wing Yip. There's probably something out there that would work in a similar way though.
Yea I was thinking about it after watching the vid, seems like a bit of an inconvenience tbh

@Rob998 what you reckon of this?

I saw this on amazon, im tempted by the price and its handmade as well and its got decent reviews only thing is i dont like the big qshave logo :(

It will probably work just as well as the one that Chris @Boycie83 linked to right at the beginning of the thread, but I'd rather save up for an extra week and have the artisanal one, just because I prefer the aesthetic. It's just prettier.

I'm a face lathering heretic though, so take my opinion with a pinch of salt.

Edit: I bet the only handmade bit of the Q-Shave scuttle is when they put the top bowl and the handle on. Not to say it's poor quality or anything like that, but I think they're stretching the definition a bit.

so in your opinion and experience whats best to go for?
Mug, bowl or scuttle.....which to go for really depends on what you need from it. A bowl will help build lather or even store some soap in. A mug IMO is better at soaking brushes takes up the least space. And then the scuttle is split into two categories brush scuttle for keeping the brush warm (with or without lather on it) or the lather/bowl scuttle for building woks lather and keeping your built lather warm. I've got a few of each and they all serve me well. I personally use my bowl scuttle far more in the winter as I love warn lather

I haven't bought any from there, as I'm up to my ears in silicone dog bowls, ceramic scuttles and china bowls, but there are occasionally some quite nice shaving bowls, mainly apothecary type, from UK makers on ETSY, and at reasonable prices. There are also some very nice bowls and so forth there, from makers in North America, but by the time they're shipped here, and assuming they arrive in one piece, the cost has become that of pieces of high-end Wedgwood table china.

I can highly recommend the dog bowls, and the gigantic "Lickimat Wobble" from Amazon is first-rate. With a washbasin of hot water, they heat up nicely, and have the advantage of being buoyant enough, usually without a brush in them, to float and retain heat. Another big plus is that if you drop them in the basin or on the floor, they'll just bounce off. Do that with some of the heavier ceramic bowls and scuttles like the Woodhead ones, especially if filled with water, and they'll quite likely end up in bits, and possibly, so will the washbasin.

so i decided to go for this and i just ordered it

reason why, i wanted a modern scuttle that will give me a warm lather,
its my first scuttle so didnt want to spend to much maybe i'll like it maybe i wont?
i think i will tbh but for the price point and what it does it seems like the right decision to make

only thing i dont like is the big qshave logo but hey i got the qshave razor set with the stand and leather sleeve etc so never know might look half decent lol

anyways i really appreciate all your help in explaining the difference and giving me advice etc etc,
i'll keep you updated as to how it goes thanks again saj :)

should be getting the scuttle today but i dont have enough growth to have a head shave lol

got the scuttle today looks good, was a bit put off by the qshave logo but the logo isnt that big so not too bad actually

i will keep you updated when i actually use and see how it actually goes...

so just used it for the first time bare in mind its the first scuttle ive ever had and the scuttle is amazing if i didnt come to these wet shaving forums i wouldve never heard of it tbh, i read that some peeps use just hot tap water in it and some use boiling kettle water,
i decided i wanted hot boiling kettle water, it stayed warm for some time,
i think having a warm lather is 100% something for me especially being near enough in winter now its nice having the warm lather...

it does have sort of ridges in the scuttle so it does lather up nicely but im very inexperienced when it comes to scuttles and lathering etc
so i cant say how good or bad it was but i can say i thoroughly enjoyed it tbh

took the pic at the end of the shave when i finished so you cant really see the lather so to speak!

Sorry to hear that, it’s not a good sign have you done anything to knock it ? Or maybe it was already there and you didn’t notice..maybe the hot water caused it to crack which it shouldn’t maybe try and contact them and see if they have had any reports of the same issue
