Apologies to those of you who have seen these before but I had a request to pop a few on here.

Looks pretty good - what kind of light set up are you using? I've tried a quick mock up with 3-4 desk lamps all shone into a makeshift lift-box but the overall effect is horribly dull!

cheap off camera flash is what you need.

Chris,

What do you use as your backdrop for those?

I'm just attempting to make up my own lightbox with mixed results....

Chris

Don't. there are cheap folding lightboxes available for next to nothing. These are cubes with 4 'sides' of almost circular steel strip. You collapse it so that the steel strip circles stack on top of another, then fold these in three tiny circles like you would do with a bicycle tyre.

Small enough to carry around, quick to erect, and white enough that you can use outside ambient light. Or if used inside, just use to big flash guns, on on either side, with possibly a small third one on top, all directed to the outside fabric.

The backdrop that came with mine is a piece of blue cloth. It is quite blue, but would suffice if it weren't for the fact that it is folded inside the small bag that the collapsed lightbox comes in. No way to get the folds out. I use a number of differently coloured A1-sized cardboard sheets as backdrop.

Hi Chris
They are on a sheet of black acrylic inside a light tent with a black velvet backdrop. Got the tent off ebay for a tenner.
Here's the thing.

Yeah, that's about what I have.

I also have a 'true' light box, but erecting it is such a pain in the behind that I only use it if I need to make pics of things that don't fit in my collapsible one.
