Sharing some love

Hey gents.

Thanks for all your replies.

Do you think it could be improved in any way?

Very difficult question, I have tried to pick out small things that could be improved but any I did find were only my own errors in brush choice and water volume, once you get to know how much to use it lathers very well, same with the slickness, the right amount of water makes all the difference, too dry and the slickness is not great, but with a little more water it is really good. Any new soap can take a few shaves to get right and this one is no different. Tonight I plan to use mdc on half my face and no:8 on the other half, if that does not show a big difference then you are on the right track :)

Bob.

Thursday's shave was with a Blackland Blackbird, 28mm Alpha shaving 2 band, Polsilver (3).
4 days growth gone in 3 passes. BBS results. No nicks or sweepers. Post shave, skin felt soft but not greasy.
Pretty much consistent with my other shaves.
I will be using the same kit tonight.

Tough question. Not sure what you could improve. This soap just does what it's supposed to, and does it really well and consistently.
I will be using this soap exclusively for the rest of this month so should be able to provide a better answer.

Well three shaves in and so far everyone has been different, I done the two soap test with mdc on one half of my face and No:8 on the other, the mdc with a badger performed flawlessly as usual, so no big news there, the no:8 produced a nice thick glossy lather....but, for some reason It was difficult to get from brush to face ?, it just seemed to be sticky on the brush, I used the new proraso blue pre shave tonight and thought was it sliding off that and not adhering to my face. I ended up taking the lather off the brush and applied by hand and that went fine.
The shave itself was good but the sticking to the brush is new to me, maybe a oily brush or the new proraso , I really don't know, the mdc was fine and the pre shave was all over my face, I would be interested in your thoughts. Could there be something in the soap that does not like the new blue pre ? I think this blue has shea butter in it and it did feel greasy where the old green pre was not, I still have some of that so next shave I will use that and see if it remedies the problem, The brush was loaded and the lather looked great....but would not stick to my face..very strange.

2 pass shave, used the 28mm synthetic instead of the badger.

I'm still struggling with synthetics, and had trouble building a lather that was stable. Had to go back to the soap to load a bit more. This is more my problem rather than an issue with the soap.

Once I had a decent lather, 2 pass shave, north/south then south/north. BBS results, no issues.

I haven't felt any stinging with the No8 AS, so I thought it may not have much alcohol in it. So instead of the No8, I used some Old Spice Swagger. Exactly the same results. No burning or stinging.

This soap protects!!

I have always had issues with synthetics, no matter what soap I am using. I often have to go back to the soap, not just my soap.

As for sticking to your face, nigt a clue. I never use preshave so maybe next time I will make some up and have a go.

Thank you!

I have posted the majority of my thoughts over on my SOTD's, but best I post a few words on here being as this is where it all started.

Firstly I have to say many thanks to @James Riley for giving me the opportunity to trial something which is both new and unobtainable. Certainly at this moment anyway. And something which came with no name or hint of the scent just a simple No.8. But I do like surprises.

In the tub it is not what I would call a hard soap and definitely on the softer side of the soap world. Rather like Signature Soaps or Extro. Both of which I rate highly. No blooming as far as I am concerned and easy to work with.

I am no great expert on brushes and to some extent I haven't really got a clue as to the difference in performance between one and another. All I know is I only have two types of synthetics, a Razorock 400 and a couple of Cadman 30mm Tuxedos. If they do the Job then I'm a happy bunny. With this new soap all I found is the Razorock made for lighter work, but both made a commendable job of producing a really rich and very usable lather from it. Nothing rocket science just a simple damp brush and swirl away adding a little water if required. The lather being beautifully creamy with that lovely sheen one likes to see, and quite a mountain at that.

It is at this point where the scent starts to come to the surface. Very familiar to me and I am guessing magnolia with a hint of lemon or other citrus fragrance. Sweet without being sickly or offensive. Rather down my street.

Post shave duties and preparation out of the way, apply to face. Wonderful and nothing out of order. Does what it says on the tin or in this case doesn't. Again the 400 makes for an easier life but that is just what it seems to achieve to me . Did I say I am a brush ignoramus?

Once applied to the face that is how it stays. Unlike a few creams and soaps out there this one lasts the distance without drying out or dispating to unknown places. A big plus for me otherwise I end up shaving in sections. Which I used to do but in the long run proved it was not the best way to attack a shave.

Blade meets soap meets skin with a few bits of hair to chew through while at it. Perfect. The blade simply glides through with no discerning reason to wince or give concern. An effortless exercise. Another tick in the box.

Three passes later with minor top ups as and when required and this soap has done a wonderful job. There is sufficient staying power to see any buffing through without fear of dry blade on dry skin and other ouch moments.

Cold rinse and first class results. The scent remains for a while but the very kindly provided matching splash adds longevity to it all. No sting, no rash and just great satisfying end results.

A real winner of a soap/splash and I would give it a very high recommendation but I can't. There isn't any to purchase at the moment.

Well done @James Riley and again thanks.

This has been bothering me, so this morning I lathered up same as last night but without the proraso pre shave, it was perfect...no problem at all with applying the lather...so, it obviously is the new blue pre, it feels greasy on the skin and imo sets a barrier to the lather, not what you want from a pre shave, my experiments continue but so far the soap has proved flawless and is a really nice soap, any problems that have arisen have been brush choices and this pre shave. I read all the great reports about it but none mentioned the greasieness, maybe I need to let it absorb a while :/

Try shaving without the pre shave.

Definitely will, I have always used proraso green with no bother at all, it has a great menthol scent and is not greasy, this new stuff is totally different. We all have our routine and using a "pre" was part of mine, I used the green on shaves 1 and 2 with no problems...Anyone else use the new blue proraso ?

At this end I only use a pre oil with a new SE blade as I find them a little edgy on a first outing.

I have found with some soaps and creams an oil can change their nature
Which blades do you have problem with?

Have you tried hand stropping or running the blade through a cork to take the edge off?
