Sharing some love

Oddly my Old Spice Road hasn't aged very well and some separation of ingredients going on in the tub.

Still use it ocassionally but I don't think it quite matches its past performances

Shave 4 for me and all went very well, no pre shave apart from hot water.
I used my Gold Dollar 206 and a big badger, ( the brush...not the whole animal )
The lather stuck to my face as you would want and was superb all during the shave, I done 3 passes and could have scraped out 4 if needed, so the volume was there.
I am 100% sure that I have the water balance sorted and to avoid blue proraso, I prolly will give the green a go again as it is totally different from blue and it never gave me any bother before, I expect it to work ok with No:8.
Even tho I missed out the pre tonight and all went smoothly, I still miss the pre scent and the mindset of my normal routine.
So.... imo...this soap is a quality soap that a awful lot of big soap producers cannot match, I have no idea of the production costs but would defo buy it at around the £20-25 range, again to remark on the scent, it is really nice and kinda blends in...not overpowering but there, and gently noticible, tbh I don't like over perfumed soaps of any kind. I will mix things up again for my next shave but knowing that I can revert to tonight's shave as a safety net :)
Maybe go DE using the big badger again...or another try with the horsehair, a nice aggressive razor that will test the lather cushion and glide a bit more.
Still like to hear from anyone using the blue proraso pre shave and does it affect your lather sticktion :/

Great review. Thanks!

Hi gents.

Planning to get around to making the next test soap soon.

It won't be as big as I don't have the ingredients.

Just checking if all the testers are still on board?

Today was the 8th shave with No8. It again gave another really good result.
Most attributes of the new formula are similar to the original formula I fell in love with.
However I still think the residual slickness is not up to the same level.

Yes I'm still up for more James.

A shave tonight to make up for missing one coz I got man flu :(
Still going with a DE and will give my horsehair another chance...I love that brush but coz it underperformed on the No:8 I have not used it since...well all my shaves have been with No:8 anyway.
I would be glad to continue with the test and see if I can pickout any major developments in the new batch, Overall it seems No:8 has been very well received.

Well I used the horsehair with a hot lather for a wee change, the hh done ok, better than I expected, but really still not up there with the badger.
I had enough for three passes but that was pushing it a little, the badger produced enough for four passes, it just performs well with No:8.
The razor was a black beauty and performed flawlessly as did the soap, it actually felt better using a DE than a straight, there seemed to be better performance all round with the DE, not saying it is bad with a SR, but for me it was noticeably different. I used a Q Shave scuttle and both brush and soap loved it, lovely creamy warm lather made for a most enjoyable shave, leaving the brush in the scuttle keeps the brush lather warm too...and was warm when I washed it out.
So, once again a good performance, better with a DE, and probably the best lather/ shave I have had with the soap. As has already been noted, the lather does last the duration with no dissapation or change in consistency, that has been from shave 1.
I may, as I have done with many soaps, add a drop or 3 of glycerine to the lathered brush just before applying, I did not want to do it during a test shave as that compromises the test, but I have found it beneficial in the past, I defo will do it and post my thoughts on that down the line.

I've been giving this some thought Bob and I can give the following subjective conclusion:

I have the four Proraso pre-shaves (blue, white, red and green) and rotate them based on what soap/cream scent I'll be using. The blue is the new formulation in the new bottle/jar shape. The other three are the old style. Each of the four has a different consistency. I always use these pre-shaves but rinse them off before applying my lather.

Back on topic, the blue is probably my favourite smelling of the four but I'm convinced it doesn't work as well as the other three. I should probably try using it repeatedly for a period to judge it properly though.

The worst pre-shave I've ever used was the Clubman Pinaud oil. It smelt incredible but broke the lather down on the surface of my skin. I had some savage shaves with that before binning it.

Still onboard at this end and still happily using away on the No.8. I can't say anything wrong with it and does what it says on the tin. Which isn't much, but if it did I am sure it would be correct. Still enjoying the benefits and loving it.

Have you any plans for it to be shared so others might be able to cast their critical eyes, noses and shaving abilities? I'd be more than happy to pass on to other forum members.
