SE Razor for a beginner

SE razor for a beginner, I would go for the Colonial General - fab razor for a great price; or if you are feeling flush a Blackland Sabre L1. As always YMMV :)

To my shame I have not yet tried a 1912. The ever ready torch/razor combo looked flashy #Grabscoat

For a first SE: Schick G8 (easily found and relatively cheap, if you're careful).

Moving upwards: PAL Injectomatic (not just as easily found, in my experience, but worthy of a hunt; still reasonably cheap).

Gem Micromatic Clog Pruf. A step up in efficiency.

ER 1912 family. English ones are argued as the more efficient. Easily obtainable, but vary in quality.

Gem Micromatic Open Comb. Mileage, etc., but, for me, they are amongst the most efficient (aside from heavy hitters like the ER Streamline; which fetch some amazing prices).

You could, of course, always go non-vintage with a RazoRock Hawk. The choice of blade could then be down to a Feather Artist Club; or a Schick Proline B.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes and yes! I wholeheartedly agree with all you have said. :) P.

Wow, was just coming on to post again about the SE.... my thought process to this point was going to be to go for the Hawk V2, but didn't know what blades to go for. I've always found feather (in my DE Razor) to not be the best. I had seen that the Kai Pink seemed popular too. What blades will fit the Hawk V2?
I have been looking online for the older 1912 / schicks etc, but mostly can only find them from the USA, so not sure if I want to go that route (being in the UK). I was also unsure on blade choice for these (older/vintage) SE razors, do the modern blades fit ?

Schick Proline P are good for the Hawk; Kai's are popular too. Feather Professionals work quite well. For what's worth, I'm a huge fan of the Prolines.

As to the 1912 variants, you generally need the Gem stainless steel PTFE ones. Connaught Shaving sell them.

I just had a quick look at eBay and there are plenty of 1912s and injectors available from the UK or the EU. With a little patience, you can even find them at a good price. And there is always BST. Just ask.
There are modern blades available for both types. Connaught have already been mentioned.

I've never been a big fan of Kai Pink myself, but Feather ProGuard blades work extremely well for me in the Hawk. These are rather mild (less aggressive) blades compared to Feather Pro or even Schick Proline, yet they give me nearly as close a shave while being a lot more comfortable.
