SE blades

Hi all,

I've got a 1912 Star razor lying in the cupboard I would like to use. I got a box of decent blades around a year ago, I have no idea where I bought them from, branded Gem but they seem to have rusted badly. I've tried some nasty blades sold as a pack of three from the local chemist.

Just curious if anyone knows of a UK based site I could order a small amount of decent se blades from, I'm not really wanting to shell out for a full box of Pella's.

Thanks

Hello Proinsias, Welcome to TSR. You are in a good spot for advice on all things shaving and there is a smattering of humour on the go, practically all the time.

Have a look here at Connaught Shaving supplies <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://connaughtshaving.com/gemss.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://connaughtshaving.com/gemss.html</a><!-- m -->.

Yip, they are nice.

Forgot how nice it was to shave with the 1912. I think it just overtook my fatboy and ss as safety of choice in the space of one shave, it might be in trouble though as there's a slant on the way for Christmas.

Time to steal my micromatic back from my Dad for a bit methinks.

Thanks again

I do not know if it is blade stiffness or what, but single edge shaves are some of the best shaves I have had & they seem to stay billiard ball smooth for longer than DE shaves.

I recently aquired a GEM Junior 1912 & will break it out over the weekend. ;)

I've been sneakily faceturbating all day :oops:

I don't think you'll regret breaking out the 1912 over the weekend.

The blade stiffness may well be a factor. The rather chaotic grain on my neck tends to get a little irritated using a de but the se cuts through it with much less irritation, more akin to a straight.

I'm not sure if I got a different batch of blades last time, these just came loose and last time they came in a little blue Gem box but the blades look the same. These seem far smoother than I remember. It is possible I'm just better at shaving since then.

Glad I found this place. I've been over at B&B for some time and I like it over there but it's a bit too big to keep track of, it feels a little more homely here.
