Rockwell

Hi guys, That's my first post here and I am fairly rookie in DEs too since I own only 3 . Have used a ed89(kelvin) first. Not good for me, I have very thick and dense whiskers. Then a yaqi scalloped and ended up with a Parker 98r for the last 3months. No rotation, just use this every second day for a 3pass shave (I like it's weight and effectiveness) .
Looking to buy an adjustable and rockwell 6c/6s seems the "obvious" choice based on multiple reviews.
My 2 questions are: anyone know how these plates compare with a Parker CC (which is considered quite aggressive cc?). Also trying to decide if 6s justifies it's price for longevity. How quality/fragile is a 6c? Do you think it can be used as an only razor for a reasonable time? Many posts claim that other razor zamak topcap threads can go rusty in 2-3y but others mentioned that their 6c broke in 6months...

Welcome to TSR!

I wouldn't get too hung up on Zamak. There's plenty of Zamak razors still going strong from decades ago. There's a risk of degradation and that risk may be realised but the manufacturers normally stand behind their products if it does. If you're uncomfortable with the cost of a 6S - and understandably so - go with a 6C.

The Pearl Flexi is another potentially interesting option but I've never tried this so can't comment on it:

Thank you for replying.
Didn't know the pearl actually reached the UK! And its a good price too. This is a Gibbs/Rex clone, correct?. Read some interesting reviews and some mentioning that in the v3 they have fixed its initial flows. Now i will be more tempted to this one too :D I have to narrow down between Rockwell 6c, Parker Variant and Pearl then.

Don't forget the mighty Merkur Progress!

@Kevy is on to something there
The 6S is unpolished and wouldn't glide as well as a 6C (I haven't used a 6S before)

I remember seeing a post either here or over at ATG about someone polishing their 6S, which improved glide.

I have a Progress 500 too, and wouldn't hesitate if given a choice of only one or the other - the 6C would win every time, it really is that good.
Nickshaves makes the same supporting argument as @Kevy . I haven’t used the steel one, but my 6C on R4 is smooth and very efficient.

The 6s is a great razor, one of my favourites and very smooth but the Pearl Flexi is even smoother, noticeably but it is heavy 140gms. I like a heavy razor but it won't be for everyone.

I’ve not tried the Rockwell’s but had a Progress and a Flexi. I am in the minority but found the Progress too aggressive and had too much blade feel for me. I’ve a V2 Flexi that was ok and had no issues and it’s a dream, a lovely weight, and will give a gentle but close shave on all but the top settings. I thoroughly recommend it as I believe they’ve sorted any potential issues and it feels really smooth and is great value.

Glad to hear it. I waited to get a V3 (production run 4) because of teething problems and the previous issues have been completely sorted. It's perfect. Very happy with it.
