Rockwell 6C plate advice.

My shiny new Rockwell 6C arrived today but unfortunately I already shaved. I was hoping there is someone who could tell be which plate size would be the equivalent level of aggression to my DE89L. If anyone has knowledge of both of these please chip in with advice.

I have the DE89 and just bought the 6C. I would say that plate 3 is the equivalent to DE89. I've only shaved with plate 4 once and it seemed to me more aggressive.

As you have the facility to alter the Rockwell, I'd suggest that you try it and set it up to suit you best by experiment.

Go for a midpoint 3 to start, and then, if that's not right, try either side.

My own view is that trying to equate or yardstick one razor to another isn't helpful. All the factors change; weight, blade used, handle length, head geometry, blade gap and so forth. It's mostly a chalk and cheese exercise.

You can alter it to get what you want. In fact, I'd forget about trying to match to another razor and just try combinations until you find the best set-up for you.

And then be ready to experiment some more when you change blade brands and types.

Agreed 3=DE89 or slightly less aggressive.
Plate 4, slightly more aggressive than DE89 but great for me.

Although I should add that the blade and soap choice make a phenomenal difference, so it is all fairly much irrelevant.

I think the answer is try the plates out for yourself. For instance, start with 3 and go up or down. The other way to do it is start on 6 and see if you can shave with it. Quite a few Rockwell users do indeed use 5 and 6. As your technique improves you tend to want something a little more efficient. With a good technique, even plate 6 isn't that scary and 5 is no big deal.

Agree, i have the Muhle R89 and has just tried my new Rockwell for the second time. Plate 3 is about the same as the R89, plate 4 is AMAZING! Way more aggressive than the Muhle but totally smooth with no irritation.

Exactly this. I also like using plates 5 and 6 on the occasion, specially if I have 2-3 days growth. They are still smooth, although with more blade feel.

I have a DE87, Hawk V2 and a Rockwell 6C. I'd say 3 was nearest. I find (personally) the Rockwell is a far better shaver than the 89, there is no overhang of blades and it is better weighted. It's a great razor all round, I was sceptical about multi plate concept at first, thinking it gimmicky, but it actually is a pleasure to shave with and a bit of a luxury to have six razors to choose from.
