Anybody interested???

Dear Mr antdad

Many thanks for your e-mail.

The cost for Rhodium Plating is currently around £1 per square inch plus any costs for preparation eg silversmithing, polishing, underplating of silver or nickel etc.

Please also bear in mind that for Rhodium we have a minimum charge of £100 plus VAT in addition to the other cost elements.

I hope that whilst expensive that this is still of interest and that we can be of service.

Kindest regards

Richard Lewis
Managing Director

That'll be about 500 quid for a fat handled tech then.

What am I talking about, the actual plating costs are not too bad at all it's just the other costs that are prohibitive.

So if you had twenty razors at a tenner a time for re plating and no prep involved it could work out.

Mind you this fella comes with a Royal stamp of approval, now I just need to find somebody doing it in a shed.

If you're willing to settle for nickel plating, it can probably be done a lot cheaper. A friend of a friend did a couple for me in exchange for pints of beer. But I don't know if he can still get away with doing it at work.

I had made an enquiry on the safart razors site last year. i didn't get itdone but they were quoting £10 plus postage for nickel plating.

It's now £12 plus postage for a three piece or TTO (sorry guys but the chemicals have gone up in price)
That's to strip old plating, polish and replate.

Rhodium is supposed to be more hard-wearing than nickel but about half of the razors I'm sent to be replated are Rhodium Aristocrats etc and funnily enough the nickel plated head is often perfect with the rhodium parts being worn to the copper/brass.

Best wishes

I wonder if they used less of it, hence it rubbing off easier? It can't ever have been a cheap material.

I did a wedding the other day and the rings were silver coloured so I asked (in the service) if they were white gold. "No" said the groom "palladium".

"Oh yes" says I "Palladium? I saw Jimmy Tarbuck there once."

Went down like a lead balloon. I felt awful. When will I ever learn?
