WHAT IS IT, AND WHAT DOES IT DO?
Prohibition Style Shaving Soap (Whisky Sour & Sidecar scents) - lathering shave soaps.

APPLICATION METHOD AND DESCRIPTION:

SCENT:
Whisky Sour - A creamy whisky scent, with a punch of lime to balance the profile and add a touch of freshness.

Sidecar - Cognac and lemon, a light and fresh scent that is ideal for warmer weather, or those who prefer a mild scent to their soap.

LATHERABILITY:
Initially I had problems lathering either soap with a silvertip badger brush. The brush just couldn't take sufficient soap from the pot to create a stable lather I was happy to shave with. I wasn't going to give up, so I grabbed a RazoRock Monster 26mm synthetic brush, and got instantly better results. The lather was thick and creamy, perfect you could say. When using different brushes (a selection of boar and synthetic brushes) for testing, they all performed much better. All four brushes (RazoRock Monster, Body Shop synthetic, Wilkinson Sword boar and Omega 49 boar) gave brilliant lather, nice and creamy and importantly, stable.

I did not want to give up on using my favourite silvertip brushes with the soap, so toward the end of my testing, I performed a test by scraping some soap from the puck and putting it into my lathering bowl. I proceded to take a damp brush and lather from this. By offering the brush to the soap on a larger surface area, I was able to get a great lather that mirrored the lather produced by the boar brushes. To show this clearly, I took a video:

PERFORMANCE:
From the first shave it was evident that the performance was there, even when you took the initial dodgy lather into account. The soap was slick off the bat, allowing every blade type I threw at it to glide effortlessly over my face. Cushion was available in spades too, not once did I have that excessive blade feel on my face that some soaps that lack this property afford. All is well here, and the performance is consistent over the scent range from my findings.

POST SHAVE:
As you may well know if you've read/viewed my soap reviews in any way, post shave is of paramount importance to me, and do we have it here in Prohibition Style's soap offerings? You're too right we do! From the first to the most recent shave with the Prohibition Style soaps, I've had excellent post shave, top notch you may say. My skin felt nourished, it felt smooth, it felt brilliant. Not an ounce of tightness or dryness was to be had from any shave with these soaps. And the best bit is that at no point did I ever feel the need (or want for that matter) to apply any post shave products. Only a select few soaps leave my skin feeling that good, and Prohibition Style soap joins that elite club.

CONCLUSIVE COMMENTS:
For reasons of openness and transparancy, I will add that I was provided these soaps for review by Justin @ Prohibition Style for gratis.

The long and short of this review is that the soaps offer a superb shave, with excellent performance throughout. Sure, there is a little effort involved in lathering with a silvertip brush over and above boar and synthetics, but trust me when I say that the effort is worthwhile. The in shave performance is good all round (from the scent choice, the glide and cushion), with the star of the show being the post shave feel. If you love your boozy scents, then this range is going to be right up your alley. The soaps are presented well, perform well and can be used by all wetshavers alike due to them being 100% vegan. Vegan I here you say? A vegan soap that performs like this, surely not? Yes sireebob, a vegan soap that performs at the top of its class make no mistake. So with that, I bid you all adieu, and give you some more videos showing the initial thoughts and final review of the soaps in question. Thanks again for reading chaps, it's been a pleasure!

Final Review:

No tallow you say Nickster ... stand by for incoming ! Great write up, though I doubt I could cope with a face full of whisky sour first thing in the morning. Always nice to see more new kit coming onstream to lead us into temptation.
