Razorock Hawk V3 SS

I've ordered an OC plate just for those special days. I pretty much like the standard Hawk as-is.
And yes, Super Knurl became my favorite Hawk handle too.

I've used a variety of blades in my Hawk v2 and have come to the conclusion that my preference lies very much middle of the road.
Feather Soft Guards were way too tuggy and struggled with more than a day's growth.
Kai Captain Pro Touch & Feather Proguards gave me very similar results - nice and smooth, but not quite close enough.
Kai Captain Titan Milds were getting there and were a step up in sharpness whilst maintaining smoothness and are probably my second favourite after Feather Professionals which hit my sweet spot.
Feather Professional Supers were just a bit too aggressive and resulted in me cutting myself for only the second time ever! Got my angle slightly wrong and that was enough to gash my cheek
Haven't tried Shicks yet, but they seem to be highly regarded..
Interesting for Users of Hawk V2 but V3 is a different animal.
With the Hawk V3 there are 3 different base plates
I have used the A plate and found Schick Proline to work well
In the OC with standard handle I found the Feather Proguard an over long Shave,With a Kai Pink Shave uncomfortable.I recently put a longer handle on the OC and getting great Shaves with the Kai Pink.

Hi mpf9ret

I guess I'm about to ask a daft question, but here goes... Can using a longer handle on Hawk V2 make it a milder shave? If so, are there other handles compatible other than the Hawk handles (they've sold out)?

Thanks.

I would not think so I have never used a V2. Any std handle should work

Recieved the Hawk v3 yesterday. First shave this morning. I think this is one hell of a razor. Very happy. Maybe a cure for the RAD (finally).

Not necessarily so. My go-to is the standard plate. The aggressiveness may be adjusted with different blades.
I've got an OC plate too (just for the full spectrum) but am still to try it out properly.

These are now available from Shaving Station:

Finally had to try my Hawk v3 with the recently purchased OC baseplate. I went with tried and true Feather AC Pro blade (5th use). The effectiveness is astonishing given how smooth the shave went. I've noticed a few tiny red dots after the shave but they quickly (almost instantly) disappeared. 2-pass full-BBS. wow. I'm not gonna boldly call it a daily driver. But this tender beast shall work great in a more relaxed shaving regime (2-3 shaves per week).
The SOTD picture is here.
Next combo shall be the regular plate with a more aggressive Pro Super blade.

I had my first shave with the standard V3 last night and was very impressed. I used a Proline blade which is my go to AC blade so I'm very used to using them.

I found the Hawk to be pretty much spot on in terms of efficiency and smoothness. I had no weepers and no irritation from the shave and feel it'll be perfect for my every other day shaving routine. I would say it's somewhere in-between what most of us would describe as mild and medium, which suits me fine as I'm not a fan of aggressive razors.

The other thing that stands out is the quality of the finishing. There's minimal machining marks on mine and the outer sides have a good level of polish on them. It cost less than half the price of my Blackland Vector I would say it's superior, although I have the standard Vector not the polished one.

Likewise a first time out with the Hawk V3 recently.

A great little razor at a great entry level price but I am not going to say it is up there with the Generals (any one of them) or the Mongoose, because it isn't. Or so far anyway. Certainly sits on the mild side of life although I have started with a mild blade in the Kai Captain. I think it needs something with a sharper edge and that will be my next move. To me it seems to have a bit of a rougher shave in much the same way as the Game Changer delivered.

Build quality is first class although not sure the locating pins are on the best plate which makes it a bit awkward to load. Why the other manufacturers can't have the same incredibly shiny finish though is a shame on them. It does look sexy.

For what it cost a really nice entry level SE and many would quite happily call it a day with one. I can't as there are better in the armoury at the moment.

The end verdict is still out there as I need a bit more time and different blades to get a better gauge of how it is performing. I am expecting better results and I do hope it can show me my initial thoughts are wrong
