Razorock Hawk V3 SS

Sat 16th May
I have just completed my 4th Consecutive Shave with a Hawk V3-OC. I have a heavy beard and as I shave daily, so to test it out I took the precaution of using a guarded blade. All Shaves so far have been trouble free, and have been getting better in terms of finish. Today in fact was the best one so far, as I took my time and was rewarded with a face stroker. Will be interested to see how it goes with a non guarded blade, which I might try soon.
Though early days I think this is a good Razor, so much so that for variety I have requested a notification on availability of the Type A Guarded base plate.

I've found the Hawk V3 to be a great razor. Fantastic value for money. The standard plate has the same geometry of the aluminium V2 which suits me fine. The OC and 'A' SB are available for others that want it more aggressive. The head of the V3 has been thinned which makes the razor incredibly nimble. I have the bomb tip handle which has great grippy knurling on it.

For £130, you could be set-up for life with two stainless RazorRock razors - Game Changer and the Hawk V3. Obviously that's not an modus operandi I adhere to as I continue to acquire things!

Thur 21st May.
Having read good reports of the S/S Hawk V3 from Shavers whose likes are similar to mine, I succumbed and brought one. The Model I got was The S/S Hawk V3-OC,HD handle [80mm], Head- 73.3g, Handle-29.6g. As an alternative to OC It can be supplied with with a guarded base plate [ choice of two of varying aggression.] The head is smaller than the V1, so better around the upper lip.
Shave Wise
My first 4 Shaves were with a Feather Proguard blade,as I thought being OC it might be too aggressive .There was a nice degree of blade feel and I got trouble free Shaves.. However, I found that with my heavy beard growth it took longer than normal to get an ultra use all round finish.

I decided that things might go better with an unguarded blade, so chose to use a Schick Proline. That made a huge difference to Shave time. I have now completed 5 consecutive daily Shaves with this combo, and apart from a self induced nick they have all been trouble free, with a consistently close all round finish every time The key element in using this Razor/Blade combo is that it needs a really light touch otherwise it may well bite, so for many a guarded base plate might be the best option. I do not think I have a better trial run with any AC/SE Razor, and it tops many of the ones that I have used [ no Paradigm/ Vector ], and the retail price is very affordable. The only downside for me is that I prefer a satin finish:).

Great review. I'm using a standard V3 with Feather Professional blades for almost a month and it's currently the smoothest 3-pass-BBS champion in my stable. It really turned me into an SE fanboy.

I have just acquired my second RazoRock S/S Hawk V3- A Plate the first being the Open Comb version. Just had my second Shave with the new one, and find it less fierce than the OC but still very effective. Todays Shave very smooth and comfortable, and I had no problems attaining a super close all-round finish. This version i am sure will suit more Shavers than the OC version. The knurling on the handle needs a bit of work on its sharp edges.

Great choice of software ;)

What blade did you use with OC and A?

Hi mpf9ret

I have V2 Black Hawk. Overall I've shaved with it using most of the AC blades available. But for me the V2 is on the aggressive side. I wonder if the V3 Standard Hawk plate is a milder shave if you or anyone else knows?

Thank in advance.

HI mpf9ret

I have V2 Black Hawk, and overall I've shaved with most blades available. I still find the V2 on the aggressive side which I think comes with the Standard Hawk plate (please correct me if I'm mistaken). I find it disappointing the boys at Italian Barber didn't design a more mild plate than the standard having gone to the trouble to retool. Judging by their words online they prefer it to be an aggressive shave.
Could either of these help?:

Hi Boycie

Sorry, I didn't realise I edited my post after you replied. I felt I was a bit harsh with Italian Barber in retrospect. I checked some reviews on YouTube, and the V3 is considerably refined/improved upon the V2. So I edited the post to what it is now, but more importantly your reply is still relevant.

Thanks for the recommends.

The Feather Pro Guard is an awful experience for me. I'd get a better shave using spaghetti!

But seriously, I do have a Feather Professional Light blade or two floating around in my shaving drawer somewhere. I just lack the confidence to test it, as every blade I've used in the Black Hawk V2 has always irritated my skin. Will the Feather Professional Light really tame the Black Hawk V2, and still provide a comfortable shave for me?

If I can find the blade, I'll let you know!
