Razor washers

I don't like using them. I like the razor to be just as it was intended, pieces of metal held together by the rotational force of the thread.

Don't get me wrong I do like taking care of my razors and keeping them in pristine condition but somehow having that plastic washer on a razor detracts me from using it. For me it's the same as having a plastic screen protector on a phone.

Yes my Colonial General head is marked because of this but it's a metal tool at the end of the day. A tool that gets used and it shows it.

YMMV

I did buy a pack of 5 and use them on many of the razors I have. As I've always been told, I'm a hand-fisted bugger and regularly over- tighten and ruin threads, I thought it might be pertinent to give me a little non-wiggle room as it were.

Because one of the reasons I had started to look at DE shaving was to reduce my plastic waste, I tried for about 3 months to order cork washers - completely in vain - I even ordered and paid for them twice, only to have the order cancelled by suppliers a month or so later when the order couldn't be fulfilled.

I broke and ordered the little plastic ones, but will re-use them as long as possible.

Mine have arrived, should prolong the already long life of my razors and decrease the potential for damage / cross threading.

One to note, they won’t work with a Blackland Blackbird. But seem to work for all of my other razors.

I must be the only sad bugger who has OCD and doesn’t like the handle scratching the base plate where they connect .
"Great minds think alike" - or is that "Fools seldom differ"? :D

I received some M5 nylon washers (and put a smidge of Ballistol for good measure on DE razor threads).

Some snaps of my Henson Al13v2 mild attached for info.

All,

Just resurrecting this thread.

I’d just like to confirm that it’s a Nylon Plastic Washer, Form A, M5 (5mm)

I’ve seen some black ones. Presumably colour is irrelevant?

Best,

Ben
I use M5x 10x1mm - £1.42 for 100 from Aliexpress, including VAT and postage. It's what Badger & Blade recommends.
Black is the best colour because you can see it on the razor and less likely to drop it down the toilet. Unless you have a black razor - then you would be better off with white.
M5 x 10 x 1

All my razors are used and have these marks on already. I can't see me wearing them out in my lifetime.
They don't wear out, the thread comes away from the cap because of overtightening - then it's over for that razor.
The washer will hold the two parts together without having to be so tight. There is no fun in shaving if the razor comes loose.
I'm not bothered about my razors being marked - I don't intend selling them "as new".

does the washer have to be plastic?

i did get some amazon ages ago for few quick but they were rubbish as the it was cheapy plastic and not thick enough

My link takes you to nylon washers. I can't see how more than 1mm would be needed. They are a penny each.
You can buy clear bendy ones. I thought that was a good idea, but it wasn't. You can't see if there is one there until you unscrew the razor and the washer drops on the floor.
A lot of razors have a 10mm indent - perfect for the washers to fit in.
