Rate The Last Film You Watched

I introduced SWMBO to Good Will Hunting. I have not watched it in years and the Mrs has never seen it.

Whilst everyone knows Robin Williams was a brilliant comedian and comic actor, his performance in Good Will Hunting was well worthy of the Best Supporting Actor Oscar. Excellent film

Not the last movie I have watched but one of my favourite films.
If you are interested in the Way of St. James (Camino de Santiago) this movie is a must. Watched it more than 10 times. :D
Highly recommended. ;)

Alien Covenant
The two first thirds left me rather skeptical, but the last third of the film is the epitome of the original trilogy and convinced me eventually. (a few cameos in the movie)
Fassbender is truly brilliant, a great actor indeed and one of my favourites for sure.

I really wanted to like it but it was just dreadful. Characters you couldn't tell apart, and simply didn't care about even if you could, dreadful dialogue and acting, unbelievably bad CGI, Fassbinder absolutely wasted.

I stuck it out as far as the bit where he's learning the flute and then left. Maybe the last third was better, as you say but that is still a bad film. I was frankly staggered that the guy who gave us Blade Runner, one of the finest films of the 20th century, directed this shite.:(

I think that Alien Covenant succeeded where Prometheus failed, by giving some explanations. At last we know who is responsible and why; the how will likely be presented in the third film to come I suppose.
As in Starwars Rogue, to me the last five minutes were the best scene/sequence of the film: Das Rheingold, the entry of the gods in Walhalla ...

He also gave us Robin Hood. He hasn't done decent film in years, seventeen in fact. Black Hawk Down.
He's only done five good films anyway. Two of those are masterpieces though, so I'll give him a break.:p

Watched Baby Driver yesterday. I've struggled to understand why Edgar Wright has such a following, given the mediocre quality of his films but his is a cut above the others of his that I've seen.

OK, a lot of it could be described as "Edgar Wright does Tarantino" but the use of music (the soundtrack is the prominent feature throughout) is excellent and Wright keeps the energy level up throughout. There is a superbly filmed car chase at the beginning and the first third of the film is very good as characters and backstory are fleshed out. There is a particularly fun long tracking shot where Baby collects the coffee for the gang's morning meeting. Acting is patchy with Jamie Foxx very intense and believable, Kevin Spacey phoning it in (although still good, of course), Jon Hamm hopelessly miscast (again) and the female characters Deborah and Darling barely written and simply there as Madonna and whore respectively - almost literally so in the case of the former.

The film loses its way a bit and drags in the last two thirds. Wright employs every trope and cliché you've ever seen in a heist movie but he handles them pretty well with wit and style. Sadly, the quality of the initial car chase is not reflected in the rest of the film but it is still worth a watch.

Life - sci-fi nonsense. totally ridiculous - AVOID! 1/10

Colossus - Anne Hathaway controls/embodies and giant beast that is attacking Seoul - it's a quirky idea that has legs. I'm not a fan of her but she acts well in this - the human drama behind the story is a bit of a wet fish though - 6/10

Kong: Skull Island - really enjoyed this! daft popcorn movie where we actually get to see (a) Kong in the first few minutes and (b) him rampaging against the foolish humans with real intent. Make a note Jackson. 7/10
