Unbroken

The story of athlete Louis Zamperini who competed in the 1936 Olympics and was later captured by the Japanese, while serving in the US Army Air Force in WWII.
It's a truly epic tail of survival against seemingly insurmountable odds and this film really does the story justice. Jack O'Connell does a great job in the lead role.
It's beautifully directed by Angelina Jolie, who clearly learned a lot whilst being directed by Clint Eastwood in "Changeling". If this is anything to go by, she's going to have a long and illustrious career as a director. 9/10

Whiplash http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2582802/

Reed Richards - Whiney pussy
J Jonah Jameson - Shouty sweary
Music - Jazzy

5/10 (and one of those was for the music which wasn't quite as self-indulgent as I thought)

Steve Jobs http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2080374/?ref_=nv_sr_1

Magneto - God of ideas
Kate Winslet - I thought Kate Winslet was in this? Really, that was Kate Winslet!
Seth Rogan - Woz (caution: Rogan is not playing a stoner).

7.5/10

The Intern

De Niro in magical form, a really solid entertaining show, interspersed with some very funny parts. Not a usual fan of Anne Hathaway but she's less of her usual persona in this. 7/10

I've been very blessed to have recently watched some of the best films I've ever seen but there's one that is still affecting me, The Lady In The Van. I had posted about this earlier in this thread but Maggie Smith's performance especially is just mind-blowing. It's a wonderful film, will have to watch it again later.

American Sniper....was avoiding it Eastwood being a yahoo n'all but worth a watch when I found out it was loosely based on a true story. This revelation shouldn't spoil it for you but after killing hundreds and surviving four tours of Tie Rack he was killed at home by one of his own, great performance by Sienna Miller though.

The Ninth Gate. 2000. johnny depp. Had potential. Then fizzled away to an ending that made little or no sense.
(Didnt rate an R rating.)

Finally got around to watching Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens

I'd say I am - or at least used to be - a rather big Star Wars fan.
Loved the first three. Lukewarm about the three after that - and had so-so hopes for this one.

Long story short: It was very 'meh' for me.
I felt as if it tried way to hard to be a homage to the first movie and often there were scenes - and storylines - that made me wonder if it was a re-boot.
The story was pretty thin and thinking back about it it could all been covered in a 10 min shortfilm.
Acting was also spotty - especially cringe worthy were the dialogues between the x-wing pilots during battle scenes.

I'd give it a 4/10 in part because I think it was, to me, the nail in the coffin on this IP.

Watched Deadpool.
Overall I thought it was pretty entertaining.
Sure, they were a bit too proud of themselves about how clever they were about breaking down the fourth wall - to the point that it got a bit annoying.

All in all I'd give it a 7.5/10.

Deadpool does that in the comics. It's why he has such a loyal following. That and he just doesn't give a monkeys! One of the best superhero films I've seen as it remains true to the character. Although the gratuitous violence should have been toned up to really make it true...
