West World (1973)

The TV series is coming soon to Sky and thought I'd catch up on the old film again, must have enjoyed it after seeing it years ago as watched the dodgy youtube stream before watching it again a few days later on Amazon Prime?

The Gunslinger is very much like Annie in the Terminator

Suicide Squad

Harlequin, phwoar. That is all.

The plot is a little iffy but she deffo makes up for any wrong doings, she plays an excellent charactor and over shadows the Joker quite a lot.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

WTF did I just watch? Or nearly watch. Could have been fun if it had less pretensions of being a big budget film, as a hammed up B movie it would have probably worked. Unfortunately it's just a hotchpotch of twaddle - avoid!

Water for elephants, set in the Great Depression, a drama about a circus and two lovers, stars Reese Witherspoon amongst others, not every ones cup of tea but I really enjoyed it.
Film 4 26th September.

Bunch of ordinary squaddies in Afghanistan guarding a dam sit round kalling and laiking about.
3 of them go on patrol to get within range of a Taliban checkpoint and wander into a 20 year old unmarked Russian minefield.
Cue a snowballing clusterfuck. A harrowing yet rewarding film, ordinary British squaddies dealing with a nightmare like ordinary British squaddies would or in this case did.
A real incident adapted for film but not fictionalised, few if any of the standard 'War' movie tricks used, no politics, no 'message'.
A thoroughly recommended update to the Ealing type British War films, not heroes just lads taking care of their mates and doing their job as best they can.

Yeah, great film! Shows British soldiers at their best. After all, they only wandered into the minefield because they wanted to get close enough for clean shots with a sniper rifle to avoid civilian casualties. If they had wanted to play safe, they could have mortared the checkpoint or called in an airstrike.

Having not seen the film bit just wondering how this would have avoided civilian casualties?

If I remember correctly, the Taliban had set up a bogus checkpoint to basically fleece passing (civilian) traffic. A mortar bombardment or an airstrike is necessarily less accurate than sniping individual, identified targets with a rifle. If a jet (the only fast air available was from the Dutch airforce) rocked up when there were civilian vehicles at the checkpoint, they obviously ran the risk of getting killed or injured.

The Girl with All the Gifts
Gemma Arterton
Glenn Close
Paddy Considine

20 years ago humanity was infected by a variant of the fungus Ophiocordyceps unilateralis. The infected, referred to as "hungries", quickly lose their mental powers and feed on the flesh of healthy humans. The disease spreads through blood and saliva, but can also spread through spores created by the fungus. In England, the few surviving uninfected humans either live in heavily-guarded areas such as the Beacon.

Second generation hungeries that retain their mentsl facilities are discovered and kept in a secure facility were they are experimented on to find a cure. 1 child displays a high IQ and is next to be vivisectioned but before the procedure the base is overrun forcing only 3 base personnel and the girl to escape

A great story and performances by all. I like Paddy Considine as an actor and this is probably his best. Cracking film and one for the Bluray collection

I look forward to watching this, it's had some good reviews.

I have to question your last comment about Paddy Considine though. You think this is his best film? Have you seen Dead Man's Shoes?
If you haven't you are in for a treat.

bit bored of modern cinematic fayre so the wife and i are visiting the classics - we saw Witness for the Prosecution with Marlene Dietrich and Tyrone Power (as in, they are in it - they weren't sitting with us). Bloody good movie. also, got round to watching Casablanca for the 1st time which was as good as they say. Both recommended
