Rainjackets

Fine praise indeed.
The only one i have ever used that doesn't soak through there were wax jackets and plastic ones.
I shall have to look at those at some point.

All useful comments lads, thanks for the recommendations, looks like I'll be putting aside the £300 odd for a decent jacket unless I find one in a sale or something. In the meantime I have ordered a Peter Storm foldable jacket, which was £20 off Blacks as that's all I can afford at the moment, never know I might get a good few years out of it! Some clothing can be like that, cheap price tag but actually lasts a long time, unless you buy it from Primark!

Had a quick look in Mountain Warehouse today in town, some nice jackets there but well over £100 for half of them, and was in a sale!

Check out Debenhams for craghopper stuff in the sales, always good bargains. Its not the best stuff, but perfectly functional. Berghaus usually have a store at the outlet and villages, check them out too. Also join up to sportspursuit.com, some truly awesome bargains to be had in outdoor clothing...

I think I need one of those 3-in-1 jackets with an inner detachable fleece. Its approaching reduction time season as the winter months approach cos will be keeping an eye out closely on some deals. The £20 rainjacket I bought recently was called into action and its pretty decent! But then its not as cold now as it will be in a couple of months.

I do like the three in one. My Berghaus has been excellent and it's over 10 years old and still going strong. The only thing wrong is that the elastic pulls to tighten down the hood have perished.

Basically, a 3-in-1 jacket is just a good rain breathing jacket with a heavy/thick fleece. If you're on a budget, you can keep your current rain jacket and buy descent heavy fleece (Karimor are quite good for the price, I got one for £15 last year) and add a thinner micro polar fleece jacket and wear them under the rain jacket.

I've settled on a Correspondent 3-in-1 jacket from Mountain Warehouse, they have knocked it down to £99 from £199 for the winter season. Getting a bit of a windfall in October so thought I'd spend the money!

The best place for this type of stuff is go outdoors. It sells high end brands at decent prices on the high street.

I've got a Mammut gortex jacket. It's amazing but there again I get rucks of Mammut stuff free for work :)
