Quality shoes for flying?

Hi everyone,

I'm just breaking in my first pair of Loake shoes and they're already so much more comfortable than my previous (cheaper) pairs of shoes that I am thinking of getting new shoes for work as well.

Problem is that I fly a lot and going through security and taking your shoes off is a pain. I've asked the shop owner where I bought the Loakes and he confirmed they use metal shanks in all their shoes except the boat shoes.

Any recommendations on quality black shoes (without broguing) for around 350 pounds that won't set off the airport security scanners?

Thank you!
Mike

Thanks guys, yeah church's seem to be a bit above budget especially since they'll be trashed.. Been reading up on the Crocket and Jones shoes and you seem to be right, @Nisse they do only use wooden shanks! I'll see if I can find a place to try some on!

Anatomic shoes are excellent, sheepskin lined, very comfortable soles. For flying i'd get some Anatomic loafers, or Chelsea boots, easy to put on and take off (don't they make you take your shoes off regardless of whether they would set the scanners off?) ... Give them a try, a bit cheaper too. Brucie bonus!

Very dependent on which airport. Some do some don't

I've spent the last 40 years travelling all over the world and for flying I can't see any further than a good pair of nylon trainers. After a long flight my feet tend to swell a little but enough to make a pair of sturdy shoes uncomfortable.

Perhaps not business wise but then again I see plenty of passengers obviously on business wearing comfy trainers

Some R.M. Williams dress boots are availabe with glasfiber shanks. I have to pass Airport Security several times per day and the RMW are perfect.
