Prone to cuts

I have to disagree with that.

I can't use Wilkinson sword blades at all. They cut me to pieces. However, I love Personna Blues. they really suit my skin. YMMV

Try some different blades. Blades make the shave. (Astras cut me up as well). Don't try to stretch the life of the blade. Use more than once (some blades get better) but not more than 3-4 times.
I have terrible skin. I get lots of spots and it's greasy and some soaps I can't even use because they burn as I'm applying them. Won't make it to the end of the shave.

Blades make not one jot of difference to me. I use whateverand they all seem to work fine... I agree some are a teeny tiny bit better than others but none to the point they're unusable. I only use decent ones mind - there might be terrible Chinese ones and things.

As long as it's a Gillette, Polsilver, Astra, Wilkinson Sword, you know... something decent - it'll shave ok.

I just can't believe that a different type of coating can make that much difference. If everyone says different blades work best for them it's because they're all the same.

Not true imho

The word 'poor' as in 'poor technique' can easily be substituted for 'developing'. Why shouldn't new shavers have a helping hand?

Also a lot of folks, me included, like a nice yoghurt like lather, with both cushion and glide in balance. Covering up poor technique? No, it's called enjoying shaving.

I agree wholeheartedly and isn't it ironic that damn near every top tier soap seems to have that exact consistency ('yoghurtish')? ;) I leave the skittish thin lather to the straight razor guys as many seem to prefer that.

+1

Thin lathering soaps, I now hold back for the one or two days a week I use a cartridge for practical purposes.

Antica Barbieria Colla is a perfect example. Fantastic glide and post shave, but such a narrow sweet spot to get decent cushion
