Pre shave cream use

I'm curious. When I started shaving, I used Proraso soap or similarly modestly priced soap or cream. I felt the need to use pre shave cream. Then I tried the more expensive soaps and creams, first one being Saponificio Dolomit. Was amazed at the difference and certainly no need to use pre shave.
What I was wondering , do guys use pre shave if they use the lower priced soaps, but feel like me ,that with higher quality soaps they no longer need to use pre shave.
Just wondered.

I now only use a pre shave if I've not just had a shower before I shave.

I occasionally used pre-shaves when I started DE shaving a good few years ago, but was never sure they made much difference, if any. Now that my shaving technique is good (or at least I hope it is) I'm convinced such products serve no practical purpose, at least for me.
I always face lather, and that probably provides all the prep my face needs, if it requires any at all.

I use preshave just about all the time
having said that i make it myself & it's a treat to use
