Personally, while I understand the annoyance with pop-ups, the site has to support itself financially somehow, I'm sure the advertising will help to pay the operating cost of this website and because of this I am happy to put up with them and not use an ad blocker. This is personal preference, however the site does also offer a "supporter" membership which removes the Google adds, for £1.67 a month which seems really good value, this way you can remove adds and feel good about it.

Technically... it`s not a popup but an anchor ad that attaches to the bottom of the page so you don`t need to worry about a virus if you see one. They can be closed by hitting the X at the right-hand side. They only show intermittently so I hope they are not too intrusive. As @SteveD mentioned, they are a necessary part of generating revenue to pay for the site hosting and software.

Adblock is killing 12 on this page, I see nothing.
This isn't correct. It won't be blocking 12 as there will be a maximum of 3 on any page. Most pages will only show the header ad which is 1.
I suspect your Ad blocking software is reporting wrongly.

It claims 11 at the moment, most places only shows a few, but this forum always shows a lot.

It's claiming 11 but it's not reporting correctly. Disable it on here then count how many ads you see. I guarantee it won't be 11. Anyway, I have spent enough time on this, if you don't want to view ads then leave your blocker on.

If an anchor ad is semi transparent then yes thats whats annoying the solid ads don't bother me
