Phoenix&Beau: My vegan & tallow shaving soaps [testers required]

Second shave with the tallow sample tonight and I gave it the challenge of the R41.

Great protection and pretty easy to lather. Only one problem, the smell of the unscented soap isn't great and I think that it will take a pretty strong scent to cover it. It would be a shame for this soap to be let down by the smell of the base soap coming through the chosen scent.

Short video review. I've set this as unlisted so only those with this link can view it.

Thanks
Here...Kevy I thought for a moment there you were beating eggs there to make an omelette or something...That's the surest way to create air bubbles and foam it up...As James Bond would say...Lightly Stirred...:D

Love those videos by the way...o_O

Had a shave with the tallow yesterday first time on the face (palm lathered before) and it was very very good. No dryness after, even with just a florida water splash. Thick, creamy, slick and cushioned. I'm in. Incidentally I find a badger brush as it holds more water creates a better lather than with a boar, mixed or synthetic. Decent backbone is also needed.

I've done a couple of shaves with the new version of the vegan now and I'm delighted to say it has come on leaps and bounds. Today it had a fairly tough test, 2 days worth of growth and a fairly aggressive Gillette Red Tip.

My biggest two issues with the previous version were cushion and post shave. The former, whilst not perfect, has certainly improved and is now imho at an acceptable level, the latter to be honest I cannot fault at all. My skin felt good straight after the shave and still does some 14 hours later.

I've shaved with the tallow sample every day since the first try. I'm going to need more pretty soon.

So proceed forthwith to market....

....and Merry Christmas!

Cella is an excellent soap but I do find P&B is better. Will be interested to hear your views. If you find Cella irresistible, drop me a PM.

I must give Biotique a try some day - it sounds very good.

I have never subscribed to the 'tallow is better' view. I have found my favourites to be in both camps.

A bit behind the rest of the party, I tried out your vegan soap today.
A massive improvement, well done sir. I appear to generally agree with everyone.
It loads really well and feels real slippery. Not bad to use either. (I gave it quite a long soak)
Trouble is, you have spoilt us now with your tallow one :)
(Remember that I am a relative newcomer)
So, at first feel, it appears slippery, but I struggled with my feather ss.
Didn't have the glide (?) and you could feel the blade more (cushion?) so I couldn't finish with that.
But could finish with my injector.
But it is definitely usable, just not as good as others that I use, so wouldn't buy it yet.
It appears that you have already made some improvements and I am really looking forward to trying that.
Going well I would say.

OK, I think I've done just about every possible variation of preshave and brushes I have in my possession, so I consider my review complete :) Congratulations Kerry, you've got yourself an absolutely stellar soap there, long may it continue.
Thanks @nick_s I'm massively grateful for yours and the other testers feedback and suggestions. Collectively you've all helped me get the soap to where it is today :) Thanks all for taking the time to detail your objective thoughts. A special mention to @Kevy for completing his video reviews of the tallow soap . Thank you also for your scent suggestions (@Nishy @nick_s & co) and for your feedback on the six scents I sent out to the original Vegan testers; your comments have determined the release of the below* fragrances.

An update on where I am re getting it (the tallow soap) to market:
  • Intended release: 2nd half January / early February (I'll have a firm date as I finalise other aspects)
  • It will be available for purchase via our website (details TBC) and our brand name will follow my TSR profile name - 'Phoenix&Beau'
  • RRP yet to be determined
  • Puck size will initially be 4oz pucks roughly 100mm wide, material yet to be determined (I'm waiting on various samples to arrive)
  • *3 scents to begin with and these will form part of our core range, they are as follows; Citra Royale (Lime|Litsea Cubeba|Cedarwood), Sanskrit (Sandalwood|Black Pepper|Cardamom) and Solaris (Lemon|Peppermint|Rosewood). If we're able to grow it's our intention to add to this range and to also release seasonal scents on a quarterly basis. Beyond that I currently have three scents that I've been working on, a Chypre, a Cuir De Russia and a wonderful Fougere - all three are intended as one off limited editions releases; possibly for 2016.
Lets see how we go.

In the interim please keep an eye out for announcements; I'll keep you all in the loop.

To a healthy and prosperous 2016 to all of us here on TSR.

Kerry.
