Personna Nazareth closing

I have done a SxS test and can tell no real difference for the most part, both being top tier. However, to be objective others say the new ones seem smoother, i.e., sharper. One has to ask the question why Gillette would improve an antiquated DE blade when with deteriorating market share their inevitable goal would be to convert people over to more profitable ctg./disposable platforms(?).
I think its just a natural evolution of their finishing process. As the machines & materials they use need to be replaced, they are inevitably upgraded over time. Gillette will make money where ever they can, the DE market is still very large. The UK market is different, but world-wide DE is still the most popular shaving method. The market is very competitive & with LORD, Super-Max, Feather & Wilkinson all vying for more customers if anyone just maintains their quality, they would be in danger of losing market share. Also DE blades are very cheap to make, there may be less margin but its still a good portion of their income.

Excellent points all!! ;)

On another note, have you (or anyone for that matter) heard anything about DE blade production in the new humongous P&G plant in Vietnam?

I went out to India for a few weeks earlier this year, where the majority of people are shaved in their local barbershop with a shavette and half a DE blade. With a population of over a billion, the market for DE blades will be around for a good while at least.

Vietnam was always a packing plant in the past, Shanghai sent the Superthins and other blades there for packaging. I haven't been able to source Asia made blades for a few years, so I don't have any contacts. Getting Gillettes from China is a bit risky, although there are not that many true fakes, just a lot of clones, Gilere etc.

I am down to my last Chinese Super Gillette Blue Blade and just ordered 3 more tucks from China off Ebay. I have two counterfeit tucks I bought off an American vendor and in spite of my telling him as such he still has them on his site!! To be fair he got screwed on his order IMO and is not to blame, but for integrity's sake he needs to delist those. There is an official P&G Store on Alibaba that sells them, but shipped they want approx. $29.00 U.S. which is just a little too steep for 100.

FWIW, www.razorbladesclub.com sells the superb Thai Gillette Super Thin (Improved Stainless) for a fair retail price.
