Personna? Crystal?

I'm currently using Personna blades that came in a box with blue card on the front, but the blades are in red wrappers. I've also been using Crystal blades (both came from a Connaught sample pack).

I've read elsewhere that they are the same blade, but they feel different to me. The Personna blades are a good mix of sharp and smooth, whilst the Crystals weren't sharp enough for me; pulling on the longer stubble growth.

Can anyone enlighten me? I've seen reference to Red Personnas and Blue Personnas but I don't know much about DE blades.

I love the personnas. They are my go-to blade in my Muhle headed EJ loxley. I havent tried the crystals so can't comment, but i was told that boots own brand blades are the same as personnas. So i bought a pack. Nowhere near as nice, much rougher on the skin.

There are three types of Personna blades being produced at the Nazareth plant.

1. Crystal Platinum - AKA Israeli Personna's, IP's, Super + Platinum
Blue & white wrappers. Marked Super + Platinum. Packed in 10's (dispenser) or 100's (loose in a white carton).

If Red Personnas (blue card with red writing) are the same as Crystals... then it just shows how feeble and suggestable my brain is (No comments, please). I find a world of difference between the two and agree with your assessment... I found the Crystals a bit rough. Don't know about the red wrapper, though, they may be a Personna I haven't tried yet... mine are in a plain white wrapper.

Personnas are my current favourites.. I've tried the Reds and the Lab Blues and like them both. I've got the Med Preps to try, but haven't tried yet. The Med Preps are supposed to be the same as the Lab Blues but without the coating (and are therefore a bit cheaper). Don't know if this will affect the shave, but I'll find out. I don't know what the difference is between the Reds and the Blues. I like them both and they both seem very similar to me

Paul - amazing reply!

I can confirm I've tried option 1 (Crystal Platinum) and Option 2 (in the UK Style dispenser with red wrappers).

I knew nothing about the blades beforehand and still found the "Red Personnas" to be much better (for me) than the Crystals.

Sorry to drag up an old thread. I've been using the Tesco blades and I really like them. I'd love to know if any of the other blades mentioned in the thread are the same blade as I'd love to get a bulk buy on them to save a few £Â£.
I've tried some Viking's Sword Israeli Personnas and while it is a good blade (for me anyway) it isn't quite as good as the Tesco blade.

I'm not sure on where to buy them in bulk. Connaught sell 100 for £16.xx.

I've got 8 or 9 (i think) of those from Morrison's in the random blades i'll be posting to you sometime this week though.

I call buying 100 buying in bulk but at £16.xx for 100 plus delivery I'm just as well buying them at ASDA. I was hoping the Viking's Sword was the same blade seeing as I can get 100 of them for £9.25 delivered.

I'm probably going to buy 100 Lab Blues from Connaughts soon... part of a larger order of soaps and stuff, so I think I may avoid the postage charges... haven't checked the Connaughts terms and conditions though

... just checked, free UK postage on orders over £60... that might be me!

I used one of these this today from a 100 blade plain white box (3rd photo from left) I bought in the past, the "Crystal Platinum - AKA Israeli Personna's, IP's, Super + Platinum", except the blades are totally unmarked. It had been awhile since I last used one. Personally, I cannot discern any real difference between all of them and think that they are the same. Probably the same as Boots & Tesco now sells. They are a good daily shaver blade. The vendor where I got mine said the 100 blade box is discontinued. Anyone familiar with Personna blades knows that they shave differently somewhat from say a Gillette blade.

You've got that round the wrong way & also incorrect. The Med Preps are dearer than the Lab Blues because they are sterilised. Apart from that, they are supposedly the same blade.

No, they are not sterilized, they are sanitized. There is a difference between the two terms. Sterilization is the process of eliminating 100% of the microorganism and its spores. Personna merely washes the 'Med Preps' with some sanitizer. ;)

Blimey. A bit of sanitiser & then double the price. So only someone with more money than sense would buy Med Preps instead of Lab Blues.

The personna blades from Asda actually cost Asda 63p per pack and they sell them at £1.89. I just wish I knew what blade they used as it is probably my favourite blade.
