Active Pass around of my RazoRock ECO SE razor

I have one of these, I bought it to try it. I've tried it, there's nothing wrong with it, it's just not for me. Hence the pass around.

It's an SE razor similar in style to the RazorRock Hawk, however it uses a DE blade that's been snapped in half. The fitting of the blade is straight forward, even intuitive, and the blade is held in place very well. There are numerous You Tube videos demonstrating the process of snapping the blade, the secret is to keep the waxed paper on until you've snapped it.

The usual rules apply, clean it when you receive it, clean it before you pass it on, and use registered post. I'd be grateful if no one hung onto it for more that a week, and I'm initially going to limit the offer to people who've been members longer than six months.

Please reply to this if you're interested, I'll wait a little then compile a list, and get the ball rolling.

Neil.

First shave with the razor this evening and it certainly took me by surprise. This has to rank alongside the MJ-90 as the best made Razorock aluminium razor I've come across so far. Everything fits together extremely well and it looks as though some considerable thought has gone into its design.

I tried it with half of a Shark blade and it mowed down 6 days worth of growth with ease. It was a little tuggy on the first pass (which was to be expected) and didn't suffer from any clogging. The blade angle felt intuitive enough and reminded me of a number of other SE's in that it performs best the closer you get to a 90 degree angle.

The shave, unfortunately, can only be described as efficient and rough. I've been spoilt over the years by increasingly smooth razors and certainly wouldn't describe this razor as being smooth. On the plus side, there were no weepers or irritation, which did surprise me given the roughness of the shave.

Thanks again to @neilwf for letting me try out this razor. I'm hopeful that things will improve with a different choice of blade tomorrow, given that Shark's aren't a usual go to blade for me.

Second shave with the razor today using a Voskhod blade. This gave much better results and a significantly smoother shave was the result.

Like most aluminium razors the cutting is pretty auidible and this razor does feel to be on the aggressive side of things.

Head shave tomorrow, which, given the results so far, should prove interesting.

I think I shall skip it if it is aggressive. I can't seem to get good shaves from aggressive razors.
Thanks!

I've finally, somewhat belatedly, found some time to be able to post up my final thoughts on this razor that @neilwf was kind enough to send to me as part of the pass around.

I tried a few more blades with the razor and found it to remain both efficient and not as smooth as I had originally hoped it would be. The blades that I found that managed to bring out the best in the razor were Sputnik's, Rapira Platinum Lux's and Polsilver's. I guess that a few years ago this razor would have been up there somewhere near the top of the tree in terms of efficiency vs smoothness as it feels far less harsh than a lot of razors I've shaved with in the past. Times have changed, though, and these days the benchmark has become razors such as the RS-10, Karve, Timeless 0.95, Rocnel Elite, and Homelike Start etc, all of which offer a far smoother shave. This is something of a shame as this is a very well constructed razor whose build quality is as good as the best aluminium razors out there (at a significantly lower price).

The million dollar question for me is whether I would purchase one and, on this question, I am undecided. The razor has a certain quirkiness that definitely draws me too it and, had the shave been a tad smoother, it would have been a no-brainer. I suspect that I will end up holding off to see whether Razorock decide to release a milder version and, if they do, I suspect that I would most probably purchase one then.

I would like to thank @neilwf again for offering this razor on a pass around and must admit that I am very surprised that more people haven't taken him up on his offer to share it. If you have any curiosity regarding this razor I would most certainly recommend you signing up and giving it a try as, overall, it really is a pretty nice razor. :)

Thanks for your thoughts on this, On the whole I agree with you. The Best shave I've had from it was with a Feather blade. I shave mainly with SE razors, my current favourite is a RR Hawk VII fitted with a longish stainless steel handle that i think i bought on E bay. Fitted with Feather Proguard blades. My other SE razors are a Schick Eversharp model J, and an Everready 1912. The Eco feels a bit like the Everready when shaving. I'm going to try it with the SS handle I use on my Hawk to see if it makes a difference. It does with the Hawk.
