One month back to DS shaving with Rockwell 6S, lather tends to die

As a newbie to this site (but seriously old) I splashed out on the Rockwell because I had no measure of how tough my beard actually is. I quickly got into the swing and found that setting 4 on the Rockwell was needed for a decent shave (perhaps 2 for a second 'evening' shave), so it's relatively tough as well as growing in all directions. Because I am hooked on Geo F Trumper's glycerine Face Food I tried Lubrico glycerine soap for a while but found that the lather died very quickly. What do you think is my problem - unbranded synthetic brush (although it's well made, big and handsome), the soap or my lathering technique? I am getting fantastic shaves, though, with Dorco 301 bladed (so much more comfortable than Feather) finished off with an alum block rub, then Geo F's Face Food.

Most Brit made soaps are garbage IMO. Get Cade shave soap & you won't have a problem. Chris needs to shave, if he showed up in my Office looking like that my Boss would send him home off the clock to shave.o_O

I take it you've tried soaps by Wickham, P&B and/or Signature Soaps or were you just talking crap and referring to the mainstream soaps that are available?

Most Brit soaps lather like a dream. Why not get an inexpensive tube of Palmolive & try different techniques. I learnt early to lather a hard soap twice as long as I thought it need, so as to load & fill the brush.

Do you use any other soaps at all? Might be either it needs more water or longer loading.
How do you prepare the lather? Directly on the face or in a bowl?

Try a 30 second load on the brush and don't skimp on the soap/cream, it's a cheap commodity and the only protection between your skin and the blade - get yourself down to Superdrug and get yourself a Palmolive stick, it'll be the best 75p you've ever spend....
