On Toast

There were so many things that as a child I ate on toast. No not baked beans or spaghetti hoops, but real food:

Sardines
Potted Beef
Potted Shrimps
Dripping

I did experiment with Pork Rillettes a few years ago, I think Pork Rilletes and Potted Morecambe Bay Shrimps should rejoin my menu :).

All of the above but how did you leave out cheese, Marmite, jam, marmalade, and eggs (not at the same time)?

I haven't tried these but they're now on my radar :)

Pork rillettes are available in the UK?

In the Navy we had the much-loved 'cheesy hammy eggy'. Slab of ham on toast, grilled cheese on top of that and a fried egg to crown it. If you got two you could squash them together. Not sophisticated, not 'foodie' but bloody lovely.

Go to a hipster bar they'd be "croque madame" and £8 each.

For me cheap white bread toasted with a bit of gentlemen's relish and some runny scrambled egg.

Spinach on cheese and toast - yum!
Tuna in cheese sauce
Cheesy onions on toast (Which if I remember rightly was onions lightly fried then poached in milk with loads cheese grated in at the end)
Bovril on toast! still a favourite.
Creamed mushrooms.
Toast was a big thing in my mum's cook book.
Oh man my mouth is watering right now! My mum made my eldest sardines in tomato sauce on toast the other day and I was seriously tempted - and fish has made me nauseous since my early teens.
