Occams Razor

So ,tonight , I am not a happy chap.
I have dropped Classic Shaving an e mail .
I have had my Occams for several weeks now and decided to change the plate from the two dot it came with to the three dot plate .
The first problem , the screws were that tight I ended up ruining them , even though I bought a set of Jewellers screwdrivers for the job , they did come out eventually .
The second and more important problem , I do not have a three dot plate , only a one and two two dot plates , no three dot
Sorry people , I needed to let off a little steam , it hasn't been a good day .

Here's hoping for a positive response from classic shaving.

That's bad, and I hope that you get a satisfactory result from CS.

I've been trying to work out what size/thread the machine screws are, as it seems a bit much to have to get them all the way across the Atlantic, with the delay and botheration that involves. I can't believe they aren't available from somewhere in the UK. I guess you did get the two spares in the box, however.

You mention using a "jewellers' screwdriver", and I'm not sure what the precise spec. is for those. CS recommend, and demonstrate using in the video on the website, a Phillips PH1 screwdriver. I was a little sceptical on this, as the driver is at first glance massive for the tiny screws (see "quick and dirty" photo), but it is indeed the best and easiest tool to get them out, as the tip is the right fit, and the size and handle gives much more torque. I haven't changed plates (of which I am fortunate to have one of each), but did play with undoing the screws.

Hi Derrick,
Just received my Razor. After your experience I instantly checked there was a No3 plate. I will try on a No2 as it comes, but reckon I may need to change to a No3 for my beard. Will immerse it in hot water to see if that helps in loosening off the Screws.
Hope you get a result from Classic re the plate and get extra screws. I will perhaps try mine over the next few days.
Regards-Mike B

I have just completed 8 consecutive Shaves with my Occams SE -V2 on a medium aggressive plate with a Feather Pro blade on board. The Skeletal handle is not a problem, and having established various ways of holding it I find it to be extremely tactile and manoeuvrable. In fact it is the best razor I have used for working AGT and around the neck.

I have used DE, Vintage SE/Injectors and quite a few AC/SEs , and find that the Occams delivers without any problems
consistently Top Quality Shaves better than most of them. In fact Knocks Spots off the King Cobra from the same stable.
The Screw fitting for the interchangeable heads is possibly not the best option, but once you have established which head works for you changing heads is unlikely. Looks wise it may not appeal but I find that as a Razor it functions very well.

Just completed 16 very good shaves with the Occams V2 [ Orens] V2 Razor, as fitted with a No2 plate: Eight with a Feather Pro and a further Eight with a Schick Proline.
As my broadband down for 30hours, decided to try a plate Change, to the most aggressive plate [ no 3 ]. Acting on advice I got a Phillips No1 Driver with a good handle. Screw removal was easy, and the No3 plate fitted perfectly. Now lots more blade feel during a shave, but perhaps i should have used a milder blade than the Schick Proline as I nicked my chin a bit. The Makers suggest a Pro- Guard so must acquire some.

PS just ordered some via Rakuten- japan

Hi Mike , I still haven't got around to trying my 3 plate , but , when I do I will be using a Kai MG Protouch blade .
I would be more than happy to send you some blades for you to try if you so wish .
I rate the Occams too , but , the Vector is my go to at the moment .
Hi Derrick,
Thanks for the offer, but I have some Kai. Just pushed it a bit using the Schicks. You will notice a difference when you try the No3 plate. This is a better Razor than most of the AC/SEs that I have used.
Regards- Mike

+1 on that, the Occams is also a favourite of mine and the Vector is top of the tree at present. It is hard to rotate when the vector just delivers every time. Glad I have a bit patience. Until RAD kicks in.
The Vector may well be a splendid razor, but the Occams is cheaper and has the benefit of variable aggression plates to suit different kinds of beard.

Just remember to check that the screws are tight every so often. Otherwise you can end up with some right cuts:confused: as the blade gap quadruples in size within seconds. Other than that Plate 1 and Kai Titan milds do the trick for me.

When I received the razor I tried it on plate 2 with a feather proguard blade and found it really aggressive sorry "efficient" . I changed the plate to 1 and tried again with better results. The next few shaves went fine until half way through a shave the blade became very rough. I inspected it to find that the plate had come loose. At which point several expletives were used. Fast forward a few weeks and I now use Kai Titan milds and also check the screws on a weekly basis and have regained confidence in the razor. It is good however there are better cheaper alternatives out there. I.e. Razorock Hawk V2 with Kai Titan milds. Just my opinion though.

Thanks for relating your experience, just goes to show how different we all are.I find Plate 2 great with a Schick Proline, I have quite heavy growth. Will check the screws from now on-Cheers
I like the Hawk too, but think the variable plates offer great choice for different beards.

I have been thinking of getting a hawk. How are they?

I have been thinking of getting a hawk. How are they?
I have both the original flatted cap and the revamped rounded aluminium Hawks, and they both shave well. Making the later Hawk's top cap
rounded, rather than flat planes, was, to my mind, a great improvement, and I think that's the only version now offered.

Other than using AC blades, I personally don't think there are too many points of comparison between the Hawk (and other similar AC razors) and the Occam's.

Another point with the Hawk is that it's very well-priced, thus making it a "reasonable gamble" purchase, rather than a "blue-chip speculation". If
it doesn't suit, it hasn't cost the buyer his shirt.
