Occam's Razor-comments, advice, experience, please

First go with the Occam's, Feather Pro and, not as planned, P&B Imperial Rum with RazoRock synth.

Yet again, I seem to have found another razor that I like, and which works well for me. One day something as horrible as the Futur will probably crop up, but this certainly ain't it.

In 2 passes and a touch up in the usual under-chin spots, I managed a perfect shave. The razor is very smooth, very efficient, and gives no irritation. The manoeuvrability is fine, and there's no weight problem, as it's very light. There's no blade feel to speak of, although it has a reasonable amount of audible feedback, and, despite the lightness, it doesn't make me want to use extra pressure; the opposite, in fact.

Some points of interest:-
  • the clicking of the blade is a bit disconcerting at first, but it's easy and quick enough to get used to. The movement seems to have absolutely no adverse effect on the shaving ability of this razor.
  • the handle shape is curious and not too "instinctive". I'm used to razors with square-ish handles (Supply, PAL and Schick injectors in particular), but these have variations in form (taper, etc.). The consistent width, thin grooved rectangular section of the OR feels a bit odd in the hand (mainly because of its thinness), but I think the OREN open handle would be even more peculiar. Again, it's a matter of "getting used", and it doesn't affect the shaving qualities.
  • with the light weight and form of this, balance isn't terribly important. However, I do feel that the handling, for me, would be much improved if the handle were at least the same length as the Supply. The OR is 4" overall, the Supply is a shade under 4 1/2", and a late-model plastic handled Schick is about 4 3/4". An extra 1/2 or 3/4 inch would let it sit better in the hand, and would also mitigate the slightly odd sensation caused by the handle shape.
I'll have another go tomorrow, and then use it alternately with a long-handled Mergress DE and then whatever other DE I change to after 3 days. I expect the Feather Pro blade to last about 7-10 shaves, and perhaps a little more.

Punk aside I am actually looking forward to all your thoughts as it is one one on the list.

Clean shaven punks who care about appearance? What is the world coming to?
Same old thing as happens to at least one of the bearded, waist-length coiffured Sixties art students (and I don't mean the women).

Occam's today, and still on Plate 2. This thing shaves as close and gently as any razor I've got. One or two give the impression of a close shave, but that's well on to stubble by evening and certainly the next day, but the OR really does clean up. I've got several models of AC razors from Razorock, ES, Mongoose, Rocnel and the Generals trio, and the OR is certainly as good as any of them and a lot better than a couple.

Using Razor Master Toivo pine tar soap (whose lather has a nice yellow-green tinge to it), I found that the rattle is mostly suppressed by a thick lather, and, as I thought, it doesn't bother me anyway. Likewise, a bit of familiarity with the handle goes a long way to using it better. However, the flat thin shape still isn't second-nature. I'm right-handed, and it's good when I hold it with arm under/across chin to shave the left side of my mush. Shaving the right side where the wrist/arm rotates to hold it doesn't make the grip feel quite "right".

Apparently the V1 OR caused problems for some people when shaving the upper lip, and this is why the OREN SB has been narrowed. I'm afraid I can't help on this question, as I have had a moustache for about 40 years.

I was initially sceptical about this when I first saw it on Kickstarter, and the "kitchen utensil" look didn't appeal, but it turns out that I seriously misjudged it, mostly because of its looks. It is, however, a very good razor, notwithstanding my cavils about the handle.

Was going to go for a week on the Vector, however, I need to have a go with the Occam. I have decided to take the "bend" out of the blade (I used an old one) and go for it as is.
Therefore next week will be the Occam.
I sort of expect what will happen with the Vector. I am going to fall for it big style. I love just looking at it. I am going to start with a shave with each sample blade and continue untill they are done.
Next week = Occam and Feather PB.
Mind you it could be Sunday as today's effort with the "P" is super close and comfortable. I like the Rocnel a lot. She will most definitely be a close friend.

Update. The original Myatt blades arrived this morning, therefore, everything else is on hold.
